Making them sisters instead of lesbians on the DVD?!?

So I watched this movie on Hulu a while ago (it was called "Meltdown"), and thought it was cute enough (I love campy B-movies), and I ESPECIALLY liked the way they treated the lesbian relationship as no big deal, it was just there, and the bickering between the ex-boyfriend and the now-girlfriend was funny. So, wanting to support it, and show it to some of my friends, I recently purchased the DVD, and realized that they'd re-edited the whole thing to pretend the lesbian couple were sisters instead of lovers. Comparing my copy to Hulu it's obvious that they've cut away at key moments (there might even be different takes), and looped new dialogue over it. WHAT THE HECK?

Does anyone know anything about this? Because I can't even find a mention of there being two different versions anywhere online. I mean, I understand they might think making them sisters instead of lesbians would make it more palatable to bigots and homophobes or whatever, but considering they DID make a lesbian version, it's marketed on Hulu in the 'gay&lesbian' section, and they have Meredith McGeachie from "The L Word" I kinda thought *I* was the target audience - a lesbian who likes campy B-action - and I sure don't want to see them suddenly pretending to just be sisters. I'm just disappointed, I guess. (And a little bit grossed out! Come on! They were sleeping in the same bed. She kissed her over breakfast! They're not sisters!)

I THOUGHT that scene was weird. My wife and I both turned to one another and said "They were lesbians a minute ago, right?".

Glad to know we hadn't lost our minds.
