Song at end of movie

The song that Tawfiq sings at the end of the movie - was it composed for the movie? What's the name of the song? I really like the song.

I am sure, it is a traditional Egyptian song. This was the idea.

Hey,
I liked the song as well, has a nice tune to it. Anyway, I tried looking for it but no luck at all. I don't think it's traditional Egyptian otherwise I would have found it easily, I guess it was made for the movie. I've included the details from the end credits and I've also attempted a crude translation.

The translation is just to shed some light on the song but I don't expect readers to fully comprehend the meaning for two reasons; first of all Arabic lyrics carry lots of meanings and some words or expressions just don't have an English equivalent. The second reason is that this is my first translation and trying to translate something and make sense out of the translation is kinda hard :)

Have fun,

Song Name: Ayam Fi Hodnik (Days Spent in Your Arms)
Lyrics and Music: Habib Shahadeh Hanna
Performed By: Elias Attallah

Transliteration:

Ayyam fi hodnik wel rouh haniyya
Shams saif w abadiyya, lammet ayamna el mansiyya

Ayyam khalda wel zaman ghorbeto a'saliyya
Law kont ha'eesh marra tanya makontesh haghayyar wala sanya

Ayyam taiba wel nour yeshe'a ebhorriyya
Wel khair elli benna mkhalelna hayatna hobb w henneyya

Ayyam fi hodnik wel rou7 haniyya
Shams saif w abadiyya, lammet ayamna el mansiyya

Translation:

<CHORUS>
My soul is blissful in the days spent in your arms*
An eternal summer sun has brought back our forgotten days

Immortal days in a time when homesickness is sweet as honey**
If I were to live this life all over again I wouldn't have changed a single second

Beautiful days where light shines freely
And the good that's between us fills our life with love and affection

<CHORUS>
My soul is blissful in the days spent in your arms*
An eternal summer sun has brought back our forgotten days

*The more accurate translation here would be "close to your bosom" (the sentimental meaning of course :)
**Not really sure of my translation here. I'm not sure what the lyricist meant so I just put a literal translation and left it open to interpretation.

Does anyone know, was that really Sasson Gabai's voice? If so, I'm really impressed. I can remember him in movies as far back as Rambo III, is he also a professional singer?

reply

is this the song that Dina puts on when her and Tawfiq are in the restaurant? it also plays during the credits after the police orchestra's song.

it has an Arabic female singer and then goes into a trumpet solo. I'm dying to find out what this song is, please help!
