Tension Overload

As a male, I am sure I viewed this differently, but I felt tension like few other films I've watched before. At the beginning, you realize they are hiding something that needs to be done and when I came to realize the reason, I started to get nervous. Obviously, I don't want to give anything away, but very rarely does a movie leave me feeling as upset and unnerved as this film. I'd be fascinated to know how female viewers felt during and after the film. I think it borders on brilliance, but for me personally, I'll never watch it again. It upset me, sensing this was somewhat of a true story. Watching the extras afterwards, it hit me again. A sensational piece of filmmaking, like I said, bordering on, if not achieving brilliance. It's one of those films that I will look for in other films. I can think of a few right away, but they didn't quite capture the feel. Powerful!

the part where she goes to her boyfriend's grandmother's birthday, there is a long scene where they are sitting round a table talking and she's just sitting still

that part was the best i thought, because you can feel the tension rising and it becomes almost unbearable until she goes back to the hotel

so many movies, so little time

I agree completely. What got me (after the film) was that this was the one moment where she was getting away from the horror that going on and this was the most tense moment of the film. The constant reminder of food that was coming was so real, almost like tense holiday moments, but this time with a strange family. Such a powerful film.
