"Everything just happens. Nothing's your fault," says Jack.
Maybe he could consider that some things might be HIS fault. That doesn't seem to occur to him.
He had the affair, he broke up his marriage, he thrust together a grieving young woman and his son, he talked about his ex-wife's pregnancy, he broke up his new marriage too. None of that "just happened," no. He made those choices.
At least one of those choices was actually good. Emilia's an excellent influence on his mollycoddled, spoiled, and initially rather mean-spirited child. The boy improves considerably in her care.
But the things that aren't so good, Jack needs to take responsibility there. This is what he wanted and this is what he did. His actions are not dictated by Emilia; they are his actions.
"You were dead. Now you’re not. That’s completely fυϲking mad."
