If Tyson was a straight-laced young man, he never would have wound up under D'Amato's tutelage. I mean, let's be honest here. How many middle-to-upper class kids/teens turn into professional boxers? Look at the Mexicans, the Puerto Ricans, the Thai, the African-Americans.... many of the best fighters in the world, regardless of race, had to overcome poverty, bad neighborhoods, gangs, crime, lack of education, etc.
Mike Tyson became Mike Tyson because he evolved into what he was used for. We heaped this money on him, bowed to him, and turned our heads when the negative stuff outside the ring happened. We didn't mold him; we bathed in his misfortune.
Karma caught up with him, though, and he has recieved justice. I firmly do not believe that he raped the young lady. But I believe that he did almost everything else. He has issues. I hope he finds serenity, and learns to appreciate life without needing all the materialistic crap.
But I'll never forgive him for losing to Lewis.
