I did miss a lot of his conversation with his biological mother. Did that have something to do with her?
It was his adopted parents' home. It was sort of left open but I think he was deciding about whether to go in or not.

At the beginning of the movie when he was leaving in a car with the maid and the little dog, he couldn't get through a gate because someone told him they changed the code. I got the impression that the guy was his adoptive father, and that was the same gate.
It was his adoptive parents' house.
