Close to being a masterpiece

Maybe it failed a little bit at the end. Not sure why though. Excellent movie anyway. I hadn't seen any good indie film since Little Miss Sunshine.

Great acting..........but the entire story was extremely cliched.
You knew the rich guy was just using her for one thing and that he'd show up with another woman.
You knew that the main guy would get beat up at some point in the movie. And you knew that his uncle would find out about the weed.
You knew as soon as he took the younger sister out with him to a party that she was going to get drunk and hook up with an older guy.
Do I need to go on? The reason the movie didn't catch on, in spite of some great acting, was because it was a story that's been told 1000 times. Very cliched.

My feelings exactly (up until your last sentence; I'm not a huge fan of LMS). I was really amazed by how taken I was by the film midway through; then I took a bathroom break, came back to watch the last half hour, and I wasn't quite as head-over-heels by the end. As you say, though, there was no huge, obvious misstep, so it's hard to pinpoint what brought it down a notch.

Still an amazing, hidden gem, really transcending its genre.
