The Chinese dialogues seem translated literally from English.

That's why it's called a subtitled translation, so that it makes sense when you read it in English. I'm sure American movies that are subtitled in to Chinese also have the same effect.

Forget subtitles. The actual chinese dialogue sounds a bit off. As if the whole movie was written in English and then litereally translated into chinese.

I know what you're getting at. If both the Chinese dialogue and the English subtitles were to be authentic in their own languages, then the translastion won't be perfect.

But in this case the translation is too well making the Chinese dialogue less authentic.

Hmm, I am from mainland China, the dialogues are very natural. Maybe you are not use to how young people talk in China.

I enjoyed the movie. (American from Boston.) It was kind of fascinatjng speculating on the making of.

One thing I noticed was that the english parts of the dialogue were dubbed.

The Hong Kong actor Daniel Wu actually speaks perfect English, because he is born in America. I don't think his English was dubbed. Did you see Behind the Scenes Making Of for Inseparable, it's on Youtube, is interesting to see how they make this movie.

His and Spacey's parts both seem dubbed. Now obviously it's him and KS doing the voices, it's just that they seem like they've been dubbed on top of the original tape. It's peculiar but not the first time I've seen something like this.

I know what you mean.
About Spanish in some movies.
The original script must be in English, and with the indication that those lines should be in Spanish for example.
Then, they use google translate :D and they ask the actors to say that.

Instead of asking someone who speaks the language as first tongue, "how would you say this?" and using that in the script.
