What happened to Stella?

What happened to the Thandie Newton character, Stella the accountant? I hope she is not dead and will return in the sequel (hopefully there will be a sequel). I liked the chemistry between her and Mr One Two.

Uri calls Vicktor
Vicktor asks for his gloves

really... if she lives to see the sequel (that is if anyone lives to see the sequel) it would be pretty weak on mr ritchie's behalf. Uri may have been weak, but his ruskie dogs were far from it.
Shes dead.

reply

It's easy: if there is a sequel and if Thandie Newton does not ask for too much money to appear in it, she is alive and will reappear. Otherwise, she's dead.

By the way, Victor didn't ask for his gloves. It was bad subtitles, he said in Russian "I don't like her" (Mne ona ne nravitsya) and it seems the guy who made the subtitles didn't know Russian and put this line "pass me the gloves' based on what was happening on the screen.

reply

Somehow I imagine the man who wrote and directed this movie would manage to get the intended subtitle on there. Translations in movie subtitles often don't match up with what's being said.

LOL, that's hilarious. I can't believe it. So lazy for such a high budget movie. you'd probably get more accuracy running it through Google Translate.

She's dead. Ritchie didn't show her death, but it was implied.

When you find the time, I'd rather not spend the rest of this winter TIED TO THIS *beep* COUCH!

reply

Ritchie 'implied' one two's death twice (the Russian with the hacksaw implied there was a dead body to cut up AND Archie's "I've got the boys wrapping up one two in the carpet now" comment) and look how he ended up. It's called misdirection. Sometimes it's subtle and sometimes... it not subtle at all.

reply

Hacksaw was probably just a torture instrument.

They talk about being in Chechnya and One Two even actually calls them war criminals (also note how both of them they even dressed up into officer caps), they obviously wanted to cut him alive like they were well used to.

reply

It's to be answered in the sequel obviously. Why would she die ? After all, Archie came up with the painting at the end, how did it happen ?
There's lot to be unveil...

reply

One Two : (holding her dead body) "STELLA !! STELLAaaaaaa" "This will cost him an arm and a leg" "I didn't know her that much.."

Don't hurt me Arch.
I'm only little.
LoL

Really, he was so wrapped around her finger, she probably need only drop her dress and her life would be spared. So I would say she probably 'got out of that situation'.

reply

Dude is a psychopath with a thin veneer of civility and he is AWARE of his weakness for women. He would likely strangle her with his bare hands if he did not need to find out where she got the painting. She at least gets a beat down.

I have to agree. Stella charmed an engagement ring out of this guy and she wasn't even sexually involved with him. She's portrayed as very resourceful, I'm sure she came up with something.

Archie was Stella's liaison for robbing the transfers from Lenny. You guys didn't hear Tank when he told Archie he owes him, because he discovered it was Archie steeling Lenny's money? Stella took her cut; OneTwo, Mumbles and Handsome Bob took their cut, then the rest was delivered to Archie. Archie was undercutting Lenny all along, but when Archie discovered the informant named Sydney that sent him to prison was none other than Lenny himself, Archie had incentive to go ahead and do Lenny in permanently.

Given the way the movie's been written, it's very likely Stella is alive. I was disappointed that the end of the movie didn't conclusively clarify her fate. I would prefer her still be alive just like the rest of the rag-tag crew: Archie, Johnny Quid, OneTwo, Mumbles, Handsome Bob, and Johnny Quid's managers that got drug into it. Stella's dual connection to Archie and OneTwo qualifies her as being apart of the rag-tag crew. Now that Johnny is cleaned up though, I can imagine Stella with him.

I don't think you're right here...

First... Stella wasn't robbing Lenny, she was robbing the Russian.

She was clearly meeting with OneTwo not Archie in the gallery...

Tank discovered it was OneTwo and Mumbles that were robbing the russian, and told Archie, which is why Archie owes him.

Remember Archie phones Lenny to tell him who was screwing the russian out of the money... he then captures OneTwo and Mumbles and the rest and prepares to kill them... hardly likely if he were working with them.

The money was delivered to Archie because Lenny screwed over OneTwo and Mumbles at the start so they owed him money. Which they delivered to Archie plus a bit extra to try and secure Handsome Bobs freedom...

Archie was actually being loyal to Lenny the whole film, hence his vengeful nature when he realises he was being abused.

Well, every main character in the movie had their deaths shown (with the exception of the 2 Russians in 1-2's flat, but the fact that 1-2 is still alive confirms that the Russians are dead). And even when I thought that Lenny would be getting killed on the golf course, he just ended up with a broken leg in 4 places. So it would seem to me that if the main female character of the whole entire movie would have been killed, that part would have been shown in one way or another.

I'll sat that Uri just shook her a little bit, ended up with Victor at 1-2's place, and was greeted by a very irritated Archie and the Wild Bunch celebrating Lenny's death. And why not let it take an "arm and a leg?" That seems like it could have been 1-2's revenge for what those 2 Russians with all the knives were about to do to him before Archie intervened.

That sucks. I didn't really like her character. As the article mentioned this was his first written female lead (really who includes Swept Away?) and I don't know if he just doesn't have any female perspective or what but her character wasn't likeable. If anything she's kind of a twat and greedy to boot. He almost gave her character some depth when she mentioned she wanted children but that went nowhere. I was just hoping she would get found out (which she did). Had she had any redeeming qualities I might have felt for her, but she didn't, so her character wasn't a big loss.

This is a long way off, but I gathered he wrote her with Madonna Cicone's personality in mind. LOL I just saw it on Saturday, and Stella totally reminded me of that one.

reply

Every character in every Guy Ritchie movie ever is a greedy prick, but somehow a woman who shows the same behavior is suuuuuper unlikeable.

I guess she should have been big-bosomed, blonde, and a total sweetheart deep down inside, hunh?

LOL, good point. I really liked her character btw, and Thandie is very hot too.

R-dub15, thanks for the info, I think that explains it all and the info comes straight from "Stella". I'm glad she is not dead, hopefully there will be a sequel and she and 1-2 continue their "relationship".

Gotta love MTV. In that interview the only other characters they mention are Gerard Butler, Ludacris and Jeremy Piven. What about Mark Strong? He is basically the main character... oh right, American's are the only people who A) read news at MTV.com and B) don't know who he is.

I also take offence to them referring to Chris Bridges as "Ludacris". He is credited as Chris Bridges in the credits, clearly he wanted to distance himself from his whole gangster rapper image, maybe been seen as a somewhat serious actor.... oh well thanks from bringing him back down to earth MTV.

*beep* I hate MTV.

archie is hardly the main character. hes the narrator, yes, but not the main character. one two is the film's main character.

reply

I hate to defend MTV but they have an audience to appease and I would marginally rather hear about Ludacris than Chris Bridges.

Jeremy Pivens and Chris Bridges were painfully subpar in this movie. I feel like Pivens was exposed and Ludacris is still no Ice Cube or LL Cool J, but has a good shot at reaching Mos Def's level of wooden delivery. Unfortunately it seems the more talented you are as an MC the worse you are on screen.

Talib and Nas please take note.

Anyhoo...how can you hate on MTV it was a cultural juggernaut for 30 years...a revolution from 1980 to 2000

Would you rather hear about:
MarkyMark or Mark Wahlberg...
The Fresh Prince or Will Smith...

She's dead. When the Russian saw his painting AND she told him she had had it for years, he knew that she was a liar. As a result, it confirmed his suspicion that she had set up his couriers to be robbed twice. The other guy came into the house to do the dirty work. Archie decided to get the painting back when he took over the operation. Hence his illusion to it 'costing a Russian an arm and a leg'.

reply

She lied, but she wouldn't be stupid enough to lie to Uri if she knew it was his. He'd 'ask' her where she got it, she'd give away The Wild Bunch and there'd be a showdown between TWB and Uri and his croonies, like someone else said.

Besides, we know that somehow either TWB or Archie got the painting.

Hey, Mr. President! I campaigned for the other guy, but I voted for you!

You guys need to learn how to read.

reply

I agree. When she lied that she had it for a year, Uri ob-vi-ous-ly knew she was lieing and he'd beg the question of where she acquired it from.
