Anyone else found Johnny Quid annoying...??

Is it just me or was johnny quid really irritating and the weaker link of the movie?

reply

Yeah, I kept hoping he would get killed.

I'm pretty sure he was supposed to be annoying. Didn't bother me too much, he wasn't in it that much.

HA! Made ya look

I actually thought Toby Kebbell did an excellent job as Johnny Quid and was meant to be annoying and cantancerous. It's everything that Lenny brought out in him. I loved his monologue about the cigarette box whilst playing the piano and Lenny being simultaneously beaten up.

In my opinion Johnny Quid is loosely based on Liam Gallagher who, guess what, I find annoying!

reply

i loved the character

reply

I loved the character as well. I thought his monologue, juxtapositioned with the beating, was the high point of the film.

I am Jack's IMDb post.

I second that as well. I found him more to be somewhat tragic in that he let his issues with his stepfather drive him to drugs. Then again being a movie it all works out in the end. I'm still waiting for Real RockNRolla.

reply

He is absolutely in no way based on Liam Gallagher.

reply

I think he was more based on Pete Doherty, who is (or at least was as he’s supposedly cleaned up his act now) very annoying

reply

You're definitely not the only one

reply

What, you lot can't handle a bit of a RocknRolla? To much for ya? He's only little!

reply

I think Johnny Quid was an excellent character.

reply

Agreed. Johnny's transformation is the emotional heart of the film.

reply

Irritating? Yes, but he was supposed to be. Weak link? Not a chance, in fact, his development is probably the most interesting in the entire film and a clear set up for a sequel.

When Johhny is first introduced, he comes off as comic relief, a drug-addled flash-in-the-plan rocker and druggie, weak of character, highly annoying, more bollocks than brains and unlikely to survive very long. But as the plot moves along, he shows himself in turns to be intelligent, thoughtful, tough as nails, even as a kid, a badass capable of beating a beefy bouncer within an inch of his life with a pencil(!) and the most clever, resourceful and level-headed man in the room when he saves his life and the lives of his managers in the climactic scenes.

Johnny might look like a minor character in the early going, a personified macguffin if you will, but if you think about, he probably has more scenes than about anyone else in the movie. That isn't an accident. He's a major character with depth and a helluva lot more interesting than the ostensible lead of One Two.

Dont hate on Johnny Quid. He was comical. I really hope they make a sequel.

I agree, he was annoying when he was supposed to be annoying.
Just like he said when his friend brought the two junkies who stole the McGuffin Painting "no body wants to talk to junkies, they're annoying!"

I think he really came into his own during the cigarette box scene and the warehouse when he showed that despite being slapped and even shot, he was never intimidated by anyone.
Notice as well, he'd figured out who was the snitch even without the transcripts.

reply

i in fact, loved Johnny.

MY opinion, not YOURS . Thank you :)

reply

Agreed, Johnny was very annoying at first but I started to like him in certain scenes the piano scene and the bouncer scene, the elevator scene near the end was cool too. But yeah he was an annoying character though.

Annoying yes! But I would pay double to see his character in a Rock N Rolla 2. Kebbell was great in this role! All in all a very good movie - at least better than many of the "block buster crap" we are sold today!
