Saw @ Horrorfest...

...and it was a pretty decent flick. Gotta give credit to Indie filmmakers of any Genre and hats off to these guys for an ambitious movie with lots of gore, comedy (intentional or not) and an excellent visual component (hats off to DP Mathew Rudenberg) - - all that aside they failed and here's why...

Evilution is a great idea - take the genre of "zombie" flick and flip it sideways - because instead of being "zombies" in this movie who have a terrestrial origin, they are infected with an alien life form that changes them. That sounds pretty cool, what possibilities the filmmakers have to go a different direction with their "zombies" or "alien life forms" RIGHT???
Not so much. That's was the premise AND on that point they failed.
The way the "infected" acted was a carbon copy of 28 days later, down to the raspy vocalizations, biting/attacking people and arms 'a' flailing as they chase down and attack people for no ryhme or reason, at least in other movies in this vein, the filmmakers give you a reason for the attacks (bloodlust, sustenance, whatever)here not so much as a whisper of why...
There was no originality on how they were treated other than the origin and the "why". They acted the same as every other denizen of the "zombie/infected masses" flicks, (I am legend, 28DL) Nothing new here...not a thing...

There was some brief mention by the Dr. who unleashed the alien virus on them, of their potential for co-existence and some brief dialogue but it was never fleshed out by the writer or director. (Pun intended)
Again, no substanstial difference in their treatment of the "zombie" than any other movie, trying to put an "alien" reason behind it is tantamount to putting lipstick on a pig.
