Hello. I don't usually write on the message boards but I thought I should for this movie as I throughly enjoyed it and it's interesting that you have such an opposite opinion. Yes, there are moments that are a little corny in the film, but I took that to highlight the naivety of first love. We all have corny moments in our lives, don't we?
Secondly, you say it's very predictable. Isn't that the point? The first bit of the film tells us what is going to happen! The same with Shakespeare's play - we know everything that happens from the first monologue... but the film is about how it happens rather than some sort of big revelation! I thought it was quite tense in places because I knew it was going to end badly but I didn't know when or where? I wanted to see the film as I like Pullman's books but I haven't read this one. I heard this film won a lot of awards at festivals so I was curious and I definitely enjoyed it. I thought all the actors were quite good!
