Never watched a purge movie. Should I?

For some reason I never got into them. Which is weird because they seem like my kind of movie.

Should I binge them? Which order? What should I know beforehand, etc?

The only two good ones are the Purge: Anarchy and Purge: Election Year. You can watch those two and skip the rest.

agreed. frank grillo rocks!

reply

Yup.

I always tell people that Purge; Anarchy is basically Frank Grillo LARPing as The Punisher during the Purge. From that absolutely badass armored-up Charger to his arsenal of kick-butt equipment, and his no-nonsense approach, it was a real joy to watch someone like that take of care business during the Purge.

No pussyfooting around, no moralizing the situations. It was straight to the butt-kicking.

I felt his power-level was lessened a bit during Election Year, and there was more of a racial focus to the events, but it was still a pretty decent action-thriller.

But I can watch The Forever Purge in the theater if I never watched the others?

reply

Sure. The only two Purge films that connect are Purge: Anarchy and Purge: Election Year. The rest are standalone films.

Thanks!

Liken them to horror franchises where one or two are good and the rest you watch just because you are a fan. Watch the first one and if you like it, keep going.

Thanks for the replies

the first one is sort of OK in concept.
expect lotta plot holes and a predictable ending.. but I'd watch it and stop there.

They are all entertaining in my opinion. Just saw Forever Purge and liked it. Go in knowing a lot of characters are caricatures and don’t run that deep and then just enjoy

reply

Watch the first two. The second one is the best, by far. But, the first film sets up the series, and it has some really good moments.

The rest of the films can be skipped.

reply

Another vote for the first two. The first one is a reasonably good thriller in it's own right, but the second one is just wall to wall kick ass.

reply

The first is essentially a home-invasion thriller. But, the concept of "The Purge" gets its real debut in the second movie, which takes on how The Purge affects different people in different ways, with Frank Grillo great as someone who is out for revenge, and has that motivation challenged throughout the movie.

YES..THEY ARE ALL WELL MADE,ENTERTAINING FLICKS...I PREFER THE SEQUELS WITH FRANK GRILLO,BUT I ENJOY THEM ALL.
