Dunno, but watching the film, I couldn't help but think of Dave Mustaine, of Metallica and Megadeth fame. He has a similar story, only the band he made to compete with his old bandmates was considerably better than the one in this movie. Good movie, though.
Oh, and Dave was fired because he was an obnoxious and destructive drunkard, unlike Dwight's character in this movie.
I bet Mustaine can relate to this film
he has described his frustration after being kicked out of 'tallica watching "everything they touch turn to gold"

As great of MUSICIANS the constantly changing line-up of Megadeth was, Dave Mustaine was a terrible vocalist.

I liked Dave's singing. It fit the style. He wasn't Geoff Tate or Rob Halford.

but the main actor of this movie was a lousy jack black copy
