Why was Amanda (first daughter) so angry?

I pretty much get the plot of the movie. But WHY was Amanda so angry? She kept saying "you killed me mommy", but it never shows that. It shows the mom (forgot her name already, lol) desperately trying to find her daughter before she could get hurt/drown.

What a weird movie.

Yeah, I found the movie entertaining and all, but they didn't really explain that important detail. It would have been better if they did.

I thought the movie was ok (it is a lifetime movie after all)but the ending really confused me. In my opinion it would have made more sense if Jamie had drowned amanda in the river and now amanda "came back" to get revenge, explaining why Jamie had water in her lungs.
just an idea

i think amanda was angry bc her mother was having another baby--a girl ....so that is why amanda did the things she did-- amanda's death was an accident but i think amanda blamed her mother and felt like her mother was moving on and forgetting about her which of course jamie wasn't, she never got over the death of her daughter.

Amanda's mother drowned her. The final flashback shows that Amanda got out of the water alive, so that's the only way she could then have drowned.

I don't think Jamie drowned Amanda - that's one of the few things about the movie that I feel was clear, LOL. Flashbacks keep showing that Amanda disobediently walked away, refused to return, and wound up in the water, where Jamie frantically but unsuccessfully searches for her. Jamie couldn't find her, as it is not as easy to find someone in natural waterways with currents and/or murky water as it might seem. I replayed the drowning scenes, and never saw Amanda get out of the water, although it may have seemed so because they would show her walking on the opposite bank and wandering around, perhaps looping around in time through the various flashbacks of her wandering the banks and then just showing the ball and raincoat in the water.

However, I'm totally confused as to whether Amanda really was supposed to have "possessed" the baby or whether her ghost was supposed to be wandering around doing these things without inhabiting the baby. I was pretty sure it was supposed to be Amanda alone toward the end, but the final images show the baby standing up and walking and looking at the camera, then the baby looking supposedly rather evil at the end, or that we are supposed to think she is looking evil. Hard to make an innocent baby look evil for a movie!

I think what makes the most sense is that Amanda was the evil one, always disobedient, as the father told the psychiatrist she was difficult to handle, and she, like many headstrong people who always look for a scapegoat, placed the blame for her death on her mother simply because Jamie was unable to save her from the consequences of her own actions. Somehow, it seems, Amanda ultimately caused Jamie's death by drowning outside of the water.

Well, that's my take!

I only saw the last 45 minutes or so of the movie, but to me it seemed like at the end, when the mom was in the woods and they had a scene of the river and water splashing around, I got the sense that there was a struggle there, not that the mom was just trying to save her daughter. Maybe the daughter was evil from birth for whatever reason (like you said) and tried to drown her mother when the mother was trying to save her, but the mother managed to overpower her. So Amanda came back and killed the mother out of spite and to possess the baby, just to drive her mother crazy.

I believe this is true. The makings of a true psychopath in the early stages of childhood. Had she lived she might have grown into a very sick, twisted adult.

You'd be angry too if your mother was a psychotic idiot.

chopping carrots while looking out at the window at her husband looking at her sister's ass. Of COURSE you are going to get your frigging finger chopped off.
