Mr. Boggis question...possible spoilers

I just watched this movie on Netflix and have a question about the caretaker, Mr. Boggis. From time to time he acted confused about the house, such as when he was wondering when the Tower Garden had gotten so grown over. He even came across as mysterious at times, like when he was talking about his wife.

By the end I was fully ready for it to be revealed that Boggis was a ghost, maybe even the ghost of Fred Boggis. It stands to reason; besides sharing the same last name, they both hunted rabbits, were both caretakers of the house, and when old Mr. Boggis was confused about the growth in the garden it could be that it was actually young Fred seeing the growth for the first time.

As it turned out, we are left hanging about his character. I suppose it could be said that he considered himself "married" to the house, but the viewer is just left wondering.

I thought the exact same thing! He was asked about being married and replied that he was but didn't have to be in any sort of hurry on Christmas... I think it's because Rose had long since died but he was "living on" in order to take care of the house. I just can't believe they didn't tie it up at the end, or even throw us one last bone at the end to help us confirm our conspiracy theory! ;-)

I don't think so. There is a short scene in which Mrs. Oldknow and Tolly take groceries into the kitchen. Mrs. Oldknow talks of Boggis being kind with supplying them with rabbits. Mrs.Tweedie, who doesn't seem to believe in ghosts and doesn't seem to have ever seen one responds that Mr. Boggis keeps bringing the rabbits in no matter what.

Also, we see Boggis pick Tolly up and drive him out to the house.

I think the story of Mr. and Mrs. Boggis is just a mention to be left to our imagination.
