Ghost or time travel?

I saw this movie for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed it. Although the characters react to one another as if they are seeing ghosts and at times it is portrayed that way...other moments in the movie it seems more like they are traveling back and forth between time rather than being ghosts.

I've read the whole book series but am just now rereading and my impression was a bit of both.

After reading the first two books, I would say first definitely ghost, second, on which this movie is based, time travel.
