It's called "Going Straight" not "Honest" at least.. it is in the UK. I think it looks quite good. Amanda Redman is a good actress.

reply

Nope, its called Honest, but wasn't it originally going to be called Going Straight?

reply

Yeah. I got confused because it said it was called 'Going Straight' in the TV guide but that's the old name for it. I quite like it.

wow...This is......CRAP!!!! nowhere near as good as the original. there can only be one, and Honest is not it. as for the title, Going Straight or Honest can't be that bad, especially considering the original title they had in mind for Outrageous Fortune, which was White Trash. but this one, whats with all the "mature" characters being old and ugly as hell??? and anyone don't bother starting with me, Amanda Redman is NO Robyn Malcolm and never will be. hmm and Loretta's blond rip-off doesn't look smart enough to know the difference between a 10 and a 2. i cant recall anyone being this talentless in Outrageous Fortune. obviously lack of talent DOESNT exist in NZ. and whats with almost the entire family being blond??? jesus!!! no variety whatsoever. kill this Honest crap, just kill it, it's an insult.

Lets be frank, the world is a big place.
New Zealand is a small place.
Britain is a bigger place,America is a much bigger place.

I am a film/tv fan and can only think of a handful of New Zealand films (GGODBYE PORK PIE,ONCE WE WARRIORS and the one about the military coup)and no New Zealand tv shows that have made either a commercial or artistic impact in Britain and perhaps the rest of the world as well.

So it is unrealistic to think that it is such an unreasonable thing for the NZ tv series to be re made and set in Britain.

This show is a comedy/drama it depends on people understanding the references in the plot.

So British people watching this will understand the references which will be lost on most foreign viewers if it is ever shown outside the UK.

I am sure the NZ show was great but what would it mean to people outside NZ?

Of course it is a sad fact that in the world, and not just the English speaking one,we all have to watch far too much American produced tv programmes, some of which is wonderful and a lot of which is rubbish.

It annoys me that British tv series and books are made by Americans and set in America but these things exist in a commercial world and America is the big market.

I enjoy both the British version of THE OFFICE and American one.
I liked THE DEPARTED and also the original asian version.

I like HONEST,Amanda Redman is wonderful in the lead,it is a different programme,if I ever saw the NZ one I hope I would like it.

I'm from the U.S. and I think this is crap. I've seen Outrageous Fortune and it's much better. The actors in this blow. I only watched the first ep., but that was enough for me. If you can get your hands on Outrageous Fortune, watch that instead.

reply

i loved this series probably because it reminds me of some of the families from where i live.

its a fab programme and i cant wait for series 2!!!

reply

Yep, I agree with you Lil Kim. I've never seen Outrageous Fortune so I can't compare it, but I thought this series was well scripted and well acted.

reply

I agree. I have also not seen the original NZ show, and to be honest I don't think I have ever seen a NZ television show. I am South African, so we get mostly British and American stuff. I really enjoyed "Honest" and I hope that their second season will be an improvement from the first

reply

Ive watched the whole series and think its great and cant wait for season 2, As for the characters and who play them i think they are great not everyone is supposed to look like super models and i think they fit the typical English family to the T i especially like Reza hes soooo funny.

reply

seriously, if you guys just get your hands on outrageous fortune you will see the nz version is so much better. not because of better acting or better casting but just because its ORIGINAL!! honest didnt even TRY to be different. and whats the point in saying that its reset to make it easier to understand for the british viewing audience when we are telling you IT ISNT CHANGED AT ALL!! its the same concept, the same characters, EXTREMELY similar shooting script. its a rip off.

also, its well and good saying they fit the typical english family to a T but they arent an english family, they are a remade new zealand family.

Haven't seen it yet, but from what I understand the Brits went for a heavy humour slant in their adaption. "Outrageous Fortune" in NZ has the perfect blend of character & plot development in both humour and drama which anyone watching would pick up straight away. Lets hope the Americans will learn from the Brit's mistake. If there are some British viewers that enjoyed "Honest" then lets hope they spend some money & buy the original NZ series (heaps more episodes)and see why foreign networks are interested in adapting it.

reply

I loved Honest, it was actually very life-like to a lot of British families, we must have so much in common with the families from NZ then if it's just a remade NZ family.

I tried to watch this Outrageous Fortunes but it just didn't really compare, at least not for me. I prefer Honest, and that's probably because A) I'm British and like the British take in Honest, and B) I saw Honest first and liked it immediately.

ok.. i'm a New Zealander.
Outrageous Fortune is an AMAZING show
now.. why did UK decide to remake it for their own? Why not just get episodes from NZ.
We creted the show.. and did it the best. [trying not to be up ourselves here.. but honestly].
now i'm half British so I enjoy shows from England.. but to do this to a brilliant show.. it was torture.
and now I suppose that the UK will say that they created it and take all the credit.
Thanks.

i must say.. OF must be really good if it deserved a remake in the UK.. so its nice tosee a good old kiwi show make a litt dent in British Television.

You people from New Zealand have to stop being so pathetic. Your television industry created a series for TV that so interested the UK they decided to PAY for the rights to remake it for the UK audience. I'm sure the owners and creators of Outrageous Fortune were thrilled!

Making TV is all about money and your jingoistic attitude is clearly not shared by the makers of your O.F. series - so what is your problem? The UK didn't steal anything. Irrespective of which one is better, it is another product sold to the international audience.

When you sell something to someone else, you don't go and complain because you don't own it anymore.
