There was a time when we had almost NO gay characters AT ALL on tv or in movies, or they were in the background, or their character's orientation was left up for speculation. Otherwise, we had only straight characters in media for a long time, and people liked that. I wish our entertainment would go back to doing that, particularly for kids. Every time they stick one or more gay people right front and center on a tv show, it ruins the entire production for me. I'm tired of it.

I think most characters' orientation was irrelevant. In a cop show, who cares who the cop is married to? Most of the time their spouse is not even part of the show because it's about cops, not about their family! Then background characters: most of the time, you had no idea what the sexuality of those characters was. I always wonder if the statistics on inclusion of lgbt characters assume that all background characters are straight unless explicitly shown otherwise.

In general, you'd only expect a small proportion of shows to showcase a same sex relationship in the group of main characters because there just aren't that many main characters (5? 6?) in most shows. And yet every show I watch has an explicitly same sex relationship in it now. How do they do this? I think, in two ways. First, either a major character will have a same sex relationship that is centered in the show, or a same sex relationship is created for minor characters (that you wouldn't even know their sexuality if the show were older, like the dispatcher who sits at the front desk of the police station, who says two or three lines per show). And, because of the way screenplays are constructed, if you want to center explicitly lgbtq relationships on screen, then the whole show has to be built around a theme that is relevant to lgbtq issues, otherwise the on-screen relationship doesn't fit into the show. So the result has been that every show in the last few years has basically ended up being more or less about lgbtq issues.

A current example, the tv series Ghosts. I quite like this series but within a few episodes one of the characters was shown to be a closeted gay man and it became a bigger and bigger part of the show, and eventually I realized that's what the whole show is about. The ghosts are just a metaphor for people who are hurting because they are excluded for being lgbtq. That is why every show nowadays seems the same as every other show, they all are about basically the same thing.

It is extreme homophobia.

What parts of that agenda are they tired of? The gay marriage part?

The only gay guy i know who has never been with a woman hates the gay agenda and loves to call them the F Slur so i believe you and i don't even need names and addresses, i just draw off my real life experience and if in my real life experience the one openly gay man i know hates the gay agenda which would be an indicator that a majority of gay men hate the gay agenda as im most likely to get a majority but im supposed to assume that the Liberal Bot Farms of the Internet are the true majority? Likewise the only openly gay woman i know who slept with more men than i slept with women is now 100% gay and supports all these causes and it has nothing at all to do with her history of being a hardcore leftist political hack?

What school is that in?
