viewpoint from another filmmaker

Very rarely will I ever criticize another filmmaker, but I just cannot let this one go.

I see a photo of you on IMDB where you have a camera on a tripod. Really? You own a tripod? All of your shots are shaky, washed out and poorly composed. The sound quality is horrible in some spots. Why do I hear you in the background talking about shots that you would like to have? Ridiculous. Did you have a boom microphone and an operator? Do you own a set of wireless mic's? They are inexpensive. The image and sound are intolerable. It looks like home video shot from a kid!

It is a miracle that this project ever saw the light of day. You are fortunate that Hulu picked it up. The only reason they did was because of the content.

Dude....The content is compelling. Content is king in this business. I admire your ability to carry through with your ideas. It can be incredibly hard to start, work on and ultimately complete ANY project. So I admire your willpower to see it all the way through.

Next time you may want to learn some basic filmmaking techniques. I mean this in a most constructive way, OK? Much like a football player always needs to keep practicing the basics like tackling, running, catching...You need to work on quality. QUALITY! QUALITY! QUALITY!!!! Work on these basics and you just may find that you have a successful and satisfying career. Keep your eye out for new content or stories to tell, but dude....PLEASE practice the BASICS!!!!!

Wow, another jealous and nameless filmmaker. Tell me some thing, Supernatural...since you seem to be a guru of quality grade filmmaking, could you point me to some of your many distributed films (Amazon, NetFlix, Blockbuster, Target, etc.) so that we may follow in your footsteps?

What? You don't have one!

Okay, well distribution is hard to come by and sometimes even the best can't get one, so let's look over that tiny detail. Point us to some of your award winning films so that we may all marvel at your talented technique. I mean a guy like you is so gifted that you don't even need a tripod to shoot anything.

What? You don't have an award for any of your films either!

Okay, with so many great films competing on an indie level, it's not so easy getting awards let alone winning one. So just do this...point me to one of your many undistributed and award-less films so that we may all be come witnesses to the power of the unnamed filmmaker who arrogantly attacks another who has several awards, American and world wide distribution, and a top spot on Hulu's documentary page.

Oh, you don't care to divulge that either? Then what is left of your pathetic little critique.

Say what you want about the quality of the film, but anyone who can grab a camera at the last minute with little to no money behind it and can create an award winning distributed film is one hell of a filmmaker. Not many people can pull that off.

I know Tray and I know other filmmakers and he's a breath of fresh air to documentary films. Impaler wasn't just a bunch of goofy Sharkey moments. He told a story and it was a great one. He has helped me a lot and I got the chance to work with him.

He's an executive producer and co-writer on a follow up to Impaler. I just so happen to be the director of it and it never would have been possible without him. He's been a great teacher and gave me one hell of an opportunity.

You have a right to express your opinion, but it's another when a no named cocky filmmaker (who apparently has failed so many times in life) acts like he's superior. Until you've accomplished what Tray has....just shut up and keep making crap that won't be seen by anyone except your mother and snobby little friends.

Regards,
Richard Mullenax

PS - I'm not afraid to show the work I've been involved in.

Behold the next chapter of Sharkey's life!

I bought Impaler on Amazon and recently saw this movie was playing on Hulu and read some of the comments and had to check the IMDB boards. The jelously by other filmmakers is so funny and transparent.

The OP has to feel so stupid. Put up or shut up Supernatural LOL

Thanks for the correction. I was dead tired when I wrote that. I fixed the link and I triple checked it. Works good now.
