Another viewpoint from another filmmaker

I have never met W. Tray White. I know a few people who have met him at various festivals, but I'm not responding to Supernatural1's post out of friendship or loyalty. This just happens to be a unique movie that I enjoyed. Listening to the DVD commentary made me understand and appreciate the originality and intelligence that was put into this.

With all the indie movies I see a large percentage are not that great, but I will not write negative reviews of them anywhere. Not IMDB, not anywhere. Why? Because I don't need to let personal envy get the better of me by trying to bring them down. Whatever I'd write will exist forever (as long as the planet's around) so how would it benefit me personally, to spew anger or hatred at another filmmakers movie? It wouldn't.

Making movies with Hollywood or Wall Street funding is a huge challenge, trying to make one without big funding is a nightmare -- and that's only the first challenge in movie-making. Any filmmaker that makes a movie from start to finish gets my respect, even if it's only for having done it.

But this guy (the director) from reading his interviews, made this with zero budget, did well at festivals, had a theatrical run, was picked by Snagfilms and then Hulu among other things. I could let myself think about how more people will probably see his movie on Hulu alone, then will ever see my movies, most going straight to DVD. But would that make me happy or a better filmmaker? No.

Supernatural1 posting negatively at IMDB on a colleague's movie is over the line. I cannot fathom what kind of person would make an extra IMDB account, and proceed to go out of his way bashing someone else's work.

I've been doing this for almost 15 years and this has happened to me a few times and I just want to scream "what is wrong with you!?" write a personal E-mail if you really have to. But to take your petty squabble about filmmaking taste to IMDB where consumers make purchasing and renting decisions and producers make hiring decisions; that's just f-ed up.

Oh, and if it's not obvious, there is no way I would post under my real account because people like Supernatural1 have nothing better to do but try and bring other people down.
