Greatest anime ever

Surprised not to find a thread for this great anime. Seems after all, most anime fans nowadays are interested in stupid action stuff than a good story and great characters. For me "Seirei no moribito" simply put is the greatest anime ever made, and I've seen quite a few. I really loved that it focused more in adventure/story/character rather than action, done in such a way that no single episode seems out of place or look boring. The build up is simply great and the ending not disappointing at all. Had enough subplots to add variety and depth yet never strayed too much or lose focus of the main plot. And animation/production values are phenomenal. This goes way beyond the anime realm and easily surpasses the idiotic fantasy-book adaptations we've seen in film in recent years. Hoping for new series based on the books.

How many episodes are there?

Greetings,
Need I say more? You are remembered.

There are 26 episodes.

I just saw the first episode last night on Adult Swim and it has really caught my attention. I think I'm going to enjoy it.

It's a great show, but don't expect a lot of action. IRC, eps 3-13 are more about Balsa's and Chagum's relationship together and how it grows from a body guard/protecti to a mother/son relationship.

You can never be too sure. Some people have a bitch fest about even the smallest spoiler.

I think this anime will be quite emotional/gut-wrenching for me. I think Balsa's answer to Chagum's mother's question was a big foreshadow. Time will tell....

I've never heard of it until CN and adult swim.

Same here. I, too, am really liking this anime. Episode 2 left us in a nice little cliff-hanger, too.

I caught my first ep. last week. Unfortunately I must have missed the first few.

Can anyone fill me in on the details? All I've gathered so far is that the little boy is a prince and the woman is his bodyguard.

Also wondering how "Seirei no moribito" translates into English.

A while? More like the same night.

So far, it seems each episode ends in a cliffhanger. It's a pity its timeslot has been moved to 5:30!

Yeah, 4:30 for me, which is bad enough!

Thanks for the info guys...

Yup , adult swim is f uking up . They've been on this strange streak of f uking up lately...yup . I just got banned from adult swim.com by the way lol 4,888 minutes until the ban is off .

reply

No way. What you do/say to get you banned? Was it about the schedule?

This is EXACTLY what I said :

''Hahaha Wow...now adultswim.com is sucking . Is this the end of adultswim ?

...rape. ''

Now...the reason why I ended my comment with ''rape'' was because some guy got into an argument , and he said ''Give me your address so I can come to your house and rape you'' ( the Mod banned him ) He came back and made a thread asking why did he get banned because it was a joke . The mod said HE KNEW it was a joke , but you still can't threaten people , even in a joking way ( ...what ? ) I replied to the mod with that comment . He saw it /deleted it / and banned me ( yes , the same network that showed a grown man getting raped by a banana...banned me for using the word...rape ) I was just simply saying adultswim is falling apart .

Yeah , a lot of people are pretty pissed off at adult swim . Not just the anime fans , but the comedy fans because they got rid of old school fridays .

I don't know what's going on with adult swim ,but...they need to get their $hit together .

GrandPopPoplock,

I had to laugh at your post. Well, hopefully, your banned time will seem short; at least you can lurk.

I guess we better enjoy anime on AS as long as we can; I wouldn't be surprised that they discontinue anime by January 2009.

I wachted Moribito this morning and it was wonderful. I am really liking it. The music is haunting; especially during the scene when Shuga was looking at the scrolls.

I agree it's a FANTASTIC show. Not a lot of angst ridden whining from the youth, no obscure soliloquy to milk air time, and not a badly drawn episode to perserve budget. It has great action when it needs to, well written, well animated. With a flair of Mononoke Hime, too bad I've only heard of it until recently!

This show is underrated, hope the project IG people who did this are doing better project.

I am a bit confused about this anime. First glance clearly show that the art direction is absolutely beautiful for a TV anime. However, the theme seems like million other japanimation. I am more or less disappointed at the fact that US or other western audiences don't have a chance to look into the original source material and just looking at the interpreted, stylized version of whatever this is. It doesn't really catch my attention beyond the art direction at the moment and hopefully this series will get better.

My life isn't any better than yours.

I found this anime at my library and now I've been getting it from Netflix. I'm waiting for the 8th disc to come. I'm sad that it's the end of a great show. It's definately one of my favorites. I'm going to have to buy it so I can watch it whenever.

It is just me or people are getting tired of anime, where i am living in (israel) there was a middle quantity of anime, but now we got none at all expect one, which is bakugan. The reason is they got this shows for kids (dragon ball z, yu gi oh and the usuall suspects) and than the parents were complaining their kids watch unedjucational material with violence and nudity. So, at least you have adult swim cause here we got none, nobody want's to air anime anymore.

Now, this show has the best animation i had ever seen in any animation western eastern you name it, but it isn't the best anime ever in my opinion, as there are more sophisticated ones (also sophistication doesn't always equal deepnes), like the works of mamoru oshii, muho nishikubo, yoshitoshi abe/yasuyuki ueda, satoshi kon, chiaki konaka etc etc.

Also in terms of fantasy anime there is just one i had seen so far in this level and this is "twelve kingdoms". But this anime is also in my top of favourite anime too.

reply

Perhaps my opinion holds less validity because I generally dislike most anime, but I love this series thus far as well. Of course, the reason I dislike most anime is because I do not like the art direction. The goofy faces among other core anime features irritate me greatly. This series does not have that.

reply

I agree on that. I mean I don't dislike anime as a rule but I don't like the excessively goofy look it often has. I like anime that looks somewhat realistic, like this one. But i'll still watch most anything.

Death Note was pretty good about giving its characters a realistic look, except Misa for some reason. Misa was more like a typical anime character whereas everyone else around her was more realistic-looking. Also once Misa entered the show it became less serious, at least for her scenes. Although it was still a fantastic show.

It is very good. I'm about halfway through the series on Netflix.

The only serious flaw is that Balsa is a huge Mary Sue. Huge, as in, the biggest I've ever seen...even for anime.

Just finished it. Surprisingly good! Definitely can't say it's the greatest anime ever, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. And for how little action there was, that says a lot about how well the characters were developed.

It's better on Hulu. I was watching it on Netflix at first but the picture quality wasn't so great. Also it seemed they only had like 6 episodes on there, I don't know what that's about. But after I finished episode 6 I went to Hulu and watched the rest there and the picture quality was much better.

It was amazing. I just now finished watching the last episode. There wasn't a single episode I didn't love. It was just so perfectly made. I literally don't have a single criticism. I've seen some great anime but this one just might be the very best, even beating out Samurai Champloo. This is definitely an anime to get on DVD.
