Does it remind anyone of The Emerald Forest??

This reminded me SO much of that movie. It's about 25 years old, and stars Powers Booth as a contractor clearing a forest in South America somewhere (I think). His son disappears into the forest one day, and most of the film takes up his search for him. For a moment, I thought that Vinyan would end the same way as the Emerald Forset. I won't give either endings away here now.

Anyone else agree with the similarities

I also saw that film a while ago and agree they have a similar theme

I'm glad someone else said it; "Vinyan" is very similar to "Emerald Forest." That is one of my all-time favorite films, and I love this film as well. Throughout it I couldn't stop thinking about how much this resembles John Boorman's films, in many ways.

I saw The Emerald Forest again last month, and I have to say, for a 26 year old movie, it was much more entertaining than Vinyan.

Well yes, Emerald Forest is a much faster-paced and linear movie than "Vinyan," which is strange and oblique. But the two films do have a similar look & style, and the general plot of parents searching for their child in the jungle is the same. I personally love both films for what they are.

I've not seen The Emerald Forest, but Vinyan reminded me of Apocalypse Now and The Beach.

If only it was a fraction, as good, as those two movies...
