When you can't control your wife

I feel for that woman but I feel even worse for the father. Every screwed up turn in this film is brought about by her impulsive, illogical female nature nad his incapability to control it. The loss of a child is enough to render even the soundest female mind (and that is relative) pretty much bonkers, and her husband let her descent into irrationality drag him down with her.

You seem to have the preconception that women are inherently unstable. But throughout this film, both man and wife are equally neurotic due to grief. The wife is so desperate to see her son that she sees him everywhere. The husband is so repressive that he actively refuses to see Joshua anywhere. The film is about the breakdown of communication between a grieving couple, not the madness of a woman.
