Questions about the film

According to the movie, a "vinyan" is supposed to be an angry, confused spirit that had a bad death and is waiting release from this earth.

Is the group of weird kids in the jungle supposed to be vinyans? If so, why do they strike the viewer as completely physical in nature and not spiritual? What I mean is, they seem like a tribe of homeless feral boys living in the jungle, that's it. I don't see any evidence that they're spirits pissed off about their bad death and awaiting release to leave this realm.

Also, if a vinyan is a angry spirit who suffered a bad death then wouldn't Paul and Gao become vinyans after their horrible deaths?

Some have suggested that Jeane becomes a vinyan at the end, a "mother" to the vinyan tribe, but -- if so -- she'd have to die first and we see no evidence of this. She's still alive and physical in nature and so are the kids since they're groping her bosom and she's in bliss.

Answers, anyone?

I think you missed one of the scenes with them for the first part. But still how "physical" any kind of ghost is varies enough from culture to culture, let alone in fiction. I don't think judging any one for doing it a different way is fair under any historical respect.

And while i've seen people phrase it as "she became vinyan", but I'd phrase it more like "she joined vinyan", more as a mother figure. She's wracked with grief now she has plenty of kids, and they gave her a nice make over.

Why exactly they are all boys? That's left ambigious but I suppose given we are seen in a lot of cases young girls get turned out into the sex trade, that perhaps lots of young boys are given more brutal deaths? Therefore it's only natural most Vinyans there are young boys?

Or perhaps their just the stereotypical ones to be angry enough to become vinyans? As in sure hundreds of other people must die bad deaths but it would certainly not mean all of them must become vinyans.
