It was unbelievably cruel of people

To let the dog stew in its own misery for 9 years. Ive been volunteering for an animal shelter for a long time now and have seen lots of dogs surrendered and even THROWN SOMEWHERE by their owners. The dogs get severely depressed, anxious and confused. But they respond extremely well to kindness; they have an unbelievable capacity for love. I can assure you if someone took care of that poor dog he would have lived a happy life.

Dogs have a comparable emotional intelligence to toddlers. You wouldn't let a toddler grieve by the mothers grave for years, so why would you let a dog?

This movie has made me cry uncontrollably and made me furious at the same time.

So it turned out the story was a bit exaggerated. The train station became his home. People cared for him and you can even see him happy receiving a medal.

People took care of him, apparently. The dog was doing what it wanted to do.

The dog kept running away back to the station..So unless given to someone far away(Even then still might try to make his way back)Hard to keep him home
