How does a single vote

Determine an entire election?

First I will say that I didn't even know this movie existed until very recently when I saw the trailer on an old DVD. So maybe someone can explain this to me. But would a single vote even matter? It would be one thing if the voting machines for an entire town malfunctioned. That is a huge amount of votes to consider. But unless both candidates received the exact same amount of votes (which would never happen), why not just award the presidency to the candidate with the larger margin of votes?

It was a tie in the state and the one vote would determine which candidate gets its electoral votes to cross 270.

I think OP may mean how insane the odds are something like one vote would be. We clearly seen it be very close and come down to one state, but COME DOWN TO ONE STATE DIVIDED BY ONE VOTE. coming down to one state maybe is 1 in 40 or something but coming down to one dividing vote in any state is almost in a million. TIMES 1 in 40.

But thats why its a movie.
