WAIT A MINUTE!!!! (Spoilers)

The power was out and yet the phones worked?! WHAAAAAAT?!

I'm no expert on electricity but surely the phones would have gone down as well?

Maybe the office phones had a different source of power? Separate power for the offices that the staff had compared to the rest of the compound. I dont know im just throwing ideas out.

reply

Landlines have a different source for power. My power goes out all the time where I live and my landline still works.

Yeah, I got nothing.

reply

Analog landlines are provided power from the local telco office. They have backup batteries and generators.

Am impressed that they were able to put the phone back together and get it working.

reply

Wow, I thought it was common knowledge that landline phones used power that went through the phone line.

reply

Anow, you're forgetting that most people these days are used to cordless phones or cell phones. Yes, cell phones will work in a power out, because they solely work on batteries. Cordless phones, for a reason I've never been able to fathom, cut out during power outages. Landlines are the only phones that can be connected inside a home (and I'm not including cell phones in this) and still work. It is the biggest reason why I refuse to make all the phones in my home cordless.

It is rather sad though, that people under a certain age are so ignorant of the technology that came before cordless phones and cell phones. *sigh*

reply

Cordless phones go out because even though the handset uses a battery, the base unit needs a power source to operate properly.

reply

It was common knowledge ten years ago. I was surprised by the OP till I realized he must have grown up in the age of Cell phones. He's probably never even seen one of those old analog phones that were shown in the movie.

reply

Landlines have their own power. So unless they were knocked down, the phones would still work.

reply

OP must be young than 25

nope, like the rest said, phones still work in a power outage. Power lines and phone lines are two separate things. The only thing that will affect a phone would be if you had one with caller ID that was plugged into the wall, those functions wouldn't work (not sure about the phone itself). But I have never seen a phone go down during a power outage. So your quote "I'm no expert on electricity" is completely accurate

Op is made ignorant by his own youth.
