If This Happened In Real Life.....

Could you imagine the attorneys lining up to represent the familes of the deceased who worked at the maximum security mental institution in wrongful death lawsuits? It would be beyond stupid that a place like that would have no back-up generator or something kick on in case something like that happened...

But that's why I guess it was just a movie, before anyone else says it :)

I agree. No working backup gen, head officer enlisting cooks to help, understaffed, no forearms, no one called the cops... And there really isn't a good reason for any of it. The whole situation they were in felt so forced and unrealistic. Anyone who made it out alive would be rich after the lolsuits that would follow .

Bah it is clearly pointed they are in 1989 maybe it was like this back then on this stupid asylum :D

That was before people sued when there was cheese on their burger when they ordered no cheese.

1989 was hardly prehistoric. Backup generators and direct phone lines were common. This movie really took a lot of liberties with logistics.
