The Ending *SPOILER*

I just finished watching the series. In all it was very good and very enjoyable (as is most of Kimura-san's work) but the ending has left me a bit weirded out. At least the series can claim that it did not go for the cheap Hollywood ending.

*SPOILER*

I would have liked to see Teppei live at the end. But of course, had that been the case, the viewer would have missed out on all that delicious incestuous irony. I guess what really threw me off was that I never thought Teppei was someone who would give up, because throughout the whole series he was the only one who was always like "hang in there". So the whole suicide ordeal I thought was a bit out of character. But I guess it could also be saying that he really did exhaust all of his possibilities - which is so very sad, if you think about how hard he worked and how he tried anything possible to fulfill his dream. I think the straw that broke the camel's back was Daisuke telling him that he wished he was never born. I would have liked to see more remorse on Daisuke's part, and that guy in glasses didn't get his comeuppance at the end! (Sorry, I have been pampered to expect the best endings for all the characters. It's wrong, I know.)

Oh, Teppei. Why won't you live to see tomorrow's sun?!?

This is the remake of an old '74 drama series (also a film of same yr) based on a'73 novel (supposedly based on a true family.) So yeah the ending is the same. The guy just quits altogether. But in those old ones, the Father is the central character, not the son.

Which guy in glasses? There are quite a few. lf you mean that son-in-law, since he would orchestrate the final downfall of Daisuke, spare him, he's a cool guy. l'm kinda like him, especially his last slow-mo shot at the celebration party.

"Keeping the British end up, sir."
