The songs in this are awful

Who the hell wrote / performed all those terrible acoustic whinges that started up between every other scene? I'm assuming they were (hopefully) all the same "Artist"! Actually, don't answer because I don't want to know! Painful! I really wanted to like this film (and it does have it's good points) but the music was incredibly poor (using the Talking Heads track from the original at the end was a nice touch though).

reply

Fully agree. The Talking Heads track actually sounded good compared to the annoying whimpering rubbish in this movie.

Actually, all the songs in WS2 are from David Byrne and Brian Eno's album, "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today". All songs were written and sung by David Byrne. Any Talking Heads fan should recognize his voice.

reply

OK, thanks for the correction. It's the song at the end which was deliberately used in the first Wall Street movie to sound cheesy and meaningless (suggesting the emptiness and futility of materialism), which now sounds interesting because of the synths and funny reggae-ish riffs in it. Not just interesting but listenable because it's not compressed to death unlike modern pop music.

I just watched this... thing last night. I really thought when I came to the IMDB board for it that I'd see at least a dozen threads about the lousy soundtrack. Oddly, I only found one, four pages in! It was worse than the ugliness of the female lead. And I'm basically a fan of David Byrne otherwise, but whatever Stone was trying to do with the music here totally went haywire. It was annoying as hell.

. . except they didn't. I love the music, actually, but a bad match for this film.

I completely agree about the music. I am a long-time Talking Heads fan, but David Byrne solo or with Eno has never interested me. "Home" and the other songs on the soundtrack are painful to listen to.

same here - bit TH fan, but jesus wept the songs esp in the first half of the movie were TERRIBLE.

reply

That Talking Heads song was meant to be ironic. They are still one of the best bands of all time.

reply

Agree, but Using Talking Heads "This Must be the Place", at the end was the only redeeming bit. Crap Movie.

reply

Yup, there were several occasions between scenes when a song would start, sounding absolutely lame. Byrne and Eno were not on their best form.

reply

I thought the songs were terrific, and I hate everything.
