It's crazy that he's only ever won one Oscar.

That IS crazy!

If he doesn't get the Oscar for his amazing performance in this film, the fix was obviously in. Also, up until tonight when I
saw it, I thought Nomadland was a cinch for the Best Picture Oscar. Now I'm not so sure, though I still think Frances
McDormand will get an Oscar.

The Father is not a threat for best picture.

I believe it is, though I think Nomadland will win. Which film do you think will win?

Nomadland is pretty much a lock.
The Father also didn't get a best director nomination. I believe The Father was between 5th and 8th place of the best picture nominees.

At this point, Nomadland is the real and only favorite, and Trial of the Chicago 7 has a slim shot at an upset.

Mank doesn't have the passion behind it. It's just appreciated as a creation, but not loved.
The Father, Sound of Metal, Judas the Black Messiah have the passion, but are a bit niche. They don't really have an overall support, hence the lack of best director nomination.
Minari and Promising Young Woman seem like the nomination is their reward.

Trial of the Chicago 7, even though it also doesn't have the best director nomination, has been the one with most precursor wins after Nomadland, and it also won the SAG ensemble.

Nomadland. Excellent.

Unfortunately Chadwick Boseman will win because he's black and dead and we're in a woke year.

That is a definite possibility, but since I did not see Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, I cannot judge whether he deserves it.
Meanwhile I'll be rooting for Sir Anthony. Hopefully the Academy will vote on the basis of the performances, and not on the basis of skin color or viability.

I haven’t seen The Father yet - it opens here in a couple of weeks, I think. None of the other nominees is really Oscar-worthy, although they are all quite good. Boseman makes enough of an impression, and delivers some juicy monologues, that his certain win won’t be a travesty, but it’s such an obvious filmed play, with no attempt to make it cinematic, that it’s a take-it-or-leave-it thing for me. I’m holding out hope for Hopkins, who does sound to be very good indeed in this film.

He was excellent in this film!

Because it's such an obvious filmed play it didn't get any picture, director or writing nomination.

I’ve seen The Father now and while I think Boseman is going to ultimately win, this is the performance of the year which I believe will be remembered. Hopkins is superb, his best work in many years, and for my money he towers over this year’s Best Actor field.
