Is anyone watching this?

and enjoying it?

they appear to have stuck to the story quite well, but with the exception of the Spalls everyone seems horribly miscast, especially Cecil, he looks like the star of the all-round sports almanac!

I'm quite unsure why they felt the need to re-make the film - it was perfect (if a little stilted on Mr Sands part)

In the movie shown earlier today I had more feelings towards Helen Bonham Carter, I do not feel the same towards Elaine which is spoiling it for me. Call me shallow but it does matter.

Also in this TV version it is 'Cecil' I want 'Lucy' to be with not the cockney 'George'. Cecil was a 'twit' in the movie version in this version he is quite cool.

Also, casting Sophie Thompson as Charlotte so soon after her psycho role in Eastenders means I cannot get that character out of my head while watching this.

Remember, you don't have to be smart if you can pretend to be someone else who is...

did you notice how Mrs Honeychurch sounded exactly like Miss Piggy during their little argument just before the ad break?

No good, I'm giving up - perhaps someone could tell me how it ends?

reply

I haven't seen the Helena Bonham Carter one, how did that end? According to the paper this was going to have a different ending.

reply

Could someone please tell me the quote that came on screen at the end? All I caught was Un Uomo (sp?) and I'd like to know the full thing.

reply

The quote thing at the end was:

To Fernando Ghia 1935-2005

"Un uomo buono"

No idea who it is referring to though.

reply

He was an Italian producer who died of cancer in 2005.

Think the translation is 'A Good Man'

Thank you!

I rewatched the 1985 version today as well. Lovely! It ended exactly as the novel did - with George and Lucy on honeymoon, blissfully happy. As for the dreadful ending Davies subjected us to - the less said the better! But happy it wasn't!
