A dark sign for future Hollywood
So now they're de-ageing actors via CGI. How long before they don't need real actors whatsoever?? :(

SILLY.

shareFinal Fantasy The Spirits Within was released in 2001.
shareTrue, but those two suffered from what I call "Plastic People Syndrome." Today's CGI and de-aging is LEAGUES ahead of those. Even more advanced that the "Rogue One" recreation of Peter Cushing a few years ago.
shareHollywood is focusing on all the wrong things - cgi, cgi cgi - meanwhile, the writing is crappier than it's ever been.
shareAs someone else already pointed out, CGI will only succeed live actors when CGI characters become sentient AI personalities.
It's not too far fetched, but it will be an interesting twist on technology
They've been doing it for awhile now.
shareNo, they'll always need actors. They already have done this with the animated films, Avatar, Beowulf....etc. There is still an actor doing the voice. These really realistic CGI scenes, there is always a real actor doing the scenes with those little censor buttons all over there bodies recording their movements so the CGI can add in the effects like in Avatar.
Even if we do not see the real actor....they are there.
Groot is played by Vin Diesel.
