Movies from original list that didn't make it this time

Here's a list of the movies that were on the original list (followed by their ranking) that were not included on the 2007 list.

01. DOCTOR ZHIVAGO (39)
02. THE BIRTH OF A NATION (44)
03. FROM HERE TO ETERNITY (52)
04. AMADEUS (53)
05. ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT (54)
06. THE THIRD MAN (57)
07. FANTASIA (58)
08. REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE (59)
09. STAGECOACH (63)
10. CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND (64)
11. THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE (67)
12. AN AMERICAN IN PARIS (68)
13. WUTHERING HEIGHTS (73)
14. DANCES WITH WOLVES (75)
15. GIANT (82)
16. FARGO (84)
17. MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY (86)
18. FRANKENSTEIN (87)
19. PATTON (89)
20. THE JAZZ SINGER (90)
21. MY FAIR LADY (91)
22. A PLACE IN THE SUN (92)
23. GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER (99)

My favorites are Amadeus, Fargo and The Manchurian Candidate, although I can understand why they didn't make the cut this time. I admit I'm surprised The Third Man didn't make it.

Which movies would you have kept on the list?

reply

The Third Man, Fargo, Jazz Singer, Frankenstein, and especially Fantasia should have made the list.

Rebel Without a Cause, Close Encounters. Both set standards in the way movies are made to this day.

The Third Man is arguably not an American film -- otherwise it certainly belongs for me. I would also have retained Doctor Zhivago, Birth of a Nation, The Manchurian Candidate, Patton, and maybe some others.

I'd also defnitely add Sherlock Jr. if it wasn't there.
