This Vs. Time 100

I thought there were many problems with this list. Having said that, did anyone notice Time Magazine's list? They picked two Kurosawa films, but neither one of them was Seven Samurai of Rashomon! And they picked two Bogart films, one being the obvious Casablanca, the other was In A Lonely Place. Come On! How about African Queen, Maltese Falcon or Treasure of the Sierra Madre? Other glaring omissions- Bridge on the River Kwai, Gone With the Wind, The Graduate, The Wizard of Oz, Sunset Boulevard, All About Eve, The Grapes of Wrath, and The Best Years of Our Lives. They chose one film from 1939, widely considered the best year in Hollywood. And it was the Ernst Lubitsch comedy Ninotchka. Wow. They also included they screwball comedies The Awful Truth, The Lady Eve, and His Girl Friday. They left off Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, and It Happened One Night- All better choices. That is just my opinion. I thought both AFI lists were flawed, but infinitely better. What do you think?

I agree that the AFI list is superior (even with its various "flaws"), but the two lists come from different scenarios. The AFI list was assembled by sending ballots out to 1500 directors, actors, critics, etc., while the Time Magazine list was assembled by only two men. That basically means that the AFI list was a result of the mass majority coming together to vote for the "best" movies, while Time was basically a list of the two men's favorite films. This may be a bit crude, but it’s kind of like comparing a democracy (AFI) to a dictatorship (Time).
