10 Films In and 10 Out

What 10 movies would you take out and replace them with?

My 10 out:

Toy Story
The Sixth Sense
Forrest Gump
Titanic
The Lord of the Rings
Tootsie
E.T.
Sophies Choice
Do The Right Thing
Cabaret

My 10 In:

Full Metal Jacket
Heat
Scarface
Dog Day Afternoon
All Quiet On the Western Front
The Shining
Dr. Zhivago
Amadeus
Braveheart
American Beauty

reply

I'd take out (since they have no business on this list and some even have no business being as high as they were):

Nashville
Sullivan's Travels
City Lights + another Chaplin movie (you only need 1 for god's sake, and actually, The Great Dictator is his best!)
The General
Intolerance
Do the Right Thing
Swing Time
Sunrise
A Night at the Opera

And put back on the list these 10 that got snubbed:

Dr. Zhivago
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
Birth of a Nation
Jazz Singer
Frankenstein
Amadeus
All Quiet on the Western Front
My Fair Lady
Fantasia
Patton

I think who ever voted this year a) obviously did not pay attention to the clause "most momumental and influential" films when they added some of the newbies cause some of those up there just do not make sense! and b) got sentimental adding lots of older movies, plus adding the extra Altman film (since he just died) and moving Raging Bull up so high (Scorcese's recent Oscar wins). I like Raging Bull too but c'mon it is not a Top Ten all time movie! They dropped On the Waterfront and Graduate out of the Top Ten and they are WHOLLY greater! Hell, you wouldn't have Raging Bull if it weren't for On the Waterfront!

Do The Right Thing should stay on that list.

If you truly love JESUS, copy and paste this in your signature.

I'd take out The Searchers and deffinetly put in Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico and Terminator 2.

Why Terminator 2 you may ask? I have watched thousands of films and they aren't all drama based, okay, Terminator 2 is one of the greatest sci fi films ever made, if Star Wars is up there so high so should T2 be there, even higher.

i hate jesus: see the Da Vinci code.

I completely forgot about Patton. I can't believe that didn't make it either. That should definetely be on there.

Remarkably, Full Metal Jacket, Heat and Scarface (1983) were not even among the 400 films nominated!

reply

I know, I can understand Scarface which was malled by critics when it was released but is to this day is one of the most popular movies.

Heat is probably the most underrated movie of the 90's but maybe if they put it on the list more people would see it and realize it is a masterpiece.

I was surprised Full Metal Jacket was not even nominated, it is certainly one of the best war films ever made.

I totally agree with the ones you put in. Especially Amadeus.

I agree with you on Forest Gump, Do the Right Thing, Toy Story, Cabaret and Sophies Choice. But I love the Sixth Sense and I am still angry that it lost it's oscars to American Beauty, so I consider the Sixth Sense being on the list as a pay back. I also love all the other films that I didn't mention that you think should be taken off. I would add Shawshank Redemtion as a film to be added to the list. It's a great movie.

10 out:

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (the worst film on that list)
Sunrise
The Maltese Falcon
Annie Hall
E.T.
Some Like It Hot
Pulp Fiction
Platoon
Snow White

Can't think of a tenth, I don't have the list in front of me.

Oh, and it's a good thing Amadeus isn't on the list anymore. That movie sucks.
