Another American with a question - Enna rascala?

Okay, since I'm an American who didn't start watching Indian films until recently, there are, of course, several references in OSO that I don't understand.

But could someone please explain the "Mind it" scene to me. That's the only one I haven't been able to figure out on my own, LOL. I have absolutely no idea what's going on there with the "mind it" and the "enna rascala". =)

Thank you! =)

The whole 'Mind it' sequence makes fun of the Tamil film industry and the stars there. "enna rascala" is a line in Tamil which is a spoof of dialogue used in Tamil films.

Thanks for your answer! I appreciate the info!

well to add to add on to the reply .. a lot of south films show the hero as a superman capable of dispatching thousands of the villain's minions (actually so did a lot of hindi films of the past, but in the southern films the trend is still very much alive) .. a lot of scenes do play like the spoof shown .. here they have added the rascal bit and the whole scene plays out marvellously ..

Hey thanks, that helps me a lot. =) I mean, I still thought it was a really funny scene, even though I knew I didn't *really* get it, but it definitely sparked my curiosity.

Thanks again!

I am from TamilNadu, where Tamil movies are made. So it would be apt if i added my comment here. I felt that the words used by Shahrukh like Enna Rascala ..Mind it.. are over exaggerated stuff. So it was not that funny and was pretentious for me. They are a thing of the past. The Hindi film industry (Bollywood ;-)) is usually not updated with latest happenings in Tamil films. Altho machoism of 1 guy taking on 10 goons still exist :-(

Now the Tamil movies have become way to realistic.infact a bit too raw & real :-)
Watch movies like Anbe Sivam, Autograph etc.

Movies are for entertainment and fantasy..
Ironically, people want it to be serious and real ;-)

maybe Om Shanti Om went overboard... but there are still a considerable amount of ridiculous South Indian action scenes... not just in Tamil films though!! :D I still remember seeing Pokirri and laughing my ass off at Vijay punching one of the goons and his head makes the indentation in the metal door lol.

I'm not bashing such films because I didn't grow up on them so to me they don't make sense but to someone who grew up on such films, it will seem normal and they will like those movies. It's a matter of taste and I'm happy for anyone who gets enjoyment out of such flicks. But you have to be able to laugh at urself a bit !! :D They were just poking fun in OSO!

for the record tho, yeah there is some cheesy action in a lot of south Indian films, but some of the most amazing drama comes from south India... Hindi films cant even come close.... I still think Thirakkatha (a Malayalam film) is one of the mos tmoving films I've ever seen... Hindi films can't touch that!

My name is Khan... and I am not a terrorist!!!

You do realize that the scene spoofing Tamil films was supposed to take place in the 70s, which IS the past, right? And you should also look up the meaning of the word "pretentious", I think.
