How does having darker skin make a person look slimmer?

Hell if I know. It really depends on how fat the person is to begin with. I guess because of the darker tones, the light hits theme differently. At least to tanners, it's a well known fact.

Put a bright yellow shirt on a fat man, then put the same shirt in black on him, and see which one he looks thinner in. If you don't get out much darker shades have a thinning effect because they don't reflect as much light.

People tan because milky white flesh isn't very attractive, common sense.

Yeah. I should know. I was practically clear all my life. I only started tanning a few months ago. I never ever had a problem getting a dude before. I just wanted to be tan and *beep* Does tanning offend your very being or something?

Who me? I have nothing against tanning, some people can over do it I guess but I think a nice healthy glow is attractive.

re: "Does tanning offend . . . ?"

I'm not sure if you were referring to my post, the original poster's, or someone else's. But many people who are "tan" all the time find it odd that some white people want to have darker skin while showing some prejudice toward black and/or other brown-skinned people. And there was a time (in the U.S., at least) when being tan was considered a negative quality, because it meant you had to work outside.

COMMON SENSE? are u FUDGIN me?!

CONFUSED???

I felt like,
"This guy's really hurting me."
And it hurt.

reply

Because being pale and pasty isnt attractive. Tan skin just looks healthier and makes people look more toned and yes, thinner.

I tan, I do it just since I like the way it makes me look. Plus it does make you look more "attractive" I guess, as you appear more toned.

reply

Fascinating . . . No one I've known has ever seemed slimmer after getting a tan! Maybe if they were body builders, but not any of the "ordinary" people I know.

reply

Back in the old days it was considered attractive to be white because tan meant you worked outside in the sun, like on a farm, while light skin meant that you stayed inside and walked around with a parasol like the upper class people.

Now that most folks work in offices, factories and stores a tan suggests that you have time to lay out by the pool in a bathing suit.

Too bad people can simply be happy with their natural skin color. Black, tan, white, etc-- all skin colors are beautiful.

God. Let's just let people tan if they want to. It's not some huge deal, man. Well, skin cancer is, but I'm not too concerned right now. ;P
