Was he kidnapped by A Huston & what happened when the police caught up with her after she parked the school bus? It just showed her in the back of the police car they didn't try to find his real parents after that? Thought that it was left unexplained.

Having not read the book I can't give you an answer either. I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure he was kidnapped, so why wasn't he returned to his real parents after Ida has been arrested by the police.
It's also pretty clear he's a smart kid, so he must know he's been kidnapped when he sees himself on the back of the milk carton in the restaurant. So, I don't know why he would still be obsessing about his father as an adult expecting Ida to know who it was.
Made very little sense to me.

shareNo guys, watch the movie again. She doesn't know who his father is because she stole him when he was a baby and pretended he was hers. When she started doing lunatic stuff, CPS put him in Foster Care. He didn't know he was kidnapped by her. When he sees his face on the milk carton, he assumes it's because his foster parents reported him because it's a recent photo. The only person that knew he was kidnapped for real was her.
