Proper Ending, or Cliffhanger?

So, jPod has been cancelled, it is a shame, but does anyone know, will the series end properly, or will it leave storylines open... or worse again, will it end on a cliffhanger??

I hope they wrap up everything so as it feels complete..

reply

i doubt they will wrap things up, simply because all of the episodes were taped before the first one aired. they wrote it ahead of time and that doesn't give them an opportunity to do a quick 'wrap-up' episode. plus soooo much from the book hasn't happened yet- carol and freedom's tryst, carol 'leaving' jim, kaitlyn and ethan getting together, the hug machine, etc.

I am hoping Coupland will maybe write another book, or maybe they will publish just the second season scripts...?

reply

Because we were fully expecting to come back for a second season, the 13th episode is a cliff hanger. I know, it sucks.

reply

I'm assuming by your post that you are crew? Any chance of another network picking you up.

reply

One can only hope but I don't know if they are even talking about that. I actually emailed JB Sugar today and asked him just that.

If I hear anything I will post it here.

And yes, I was the script supervisor for every episode.

Good to see you paying attention to public response to the show. Hopefully the rest of your coworkers are as fervent as yourself in keeping this series going. Must be a decent salve to know people finally warmed up to it as the season went on.

SciFi channel in the states has been known to pick up programs that were successful web broadcasts. You have living confirmation of that in your cast in the form of Emilie Ullerup who played in the Sanctuary webcast. And honestly, in my opinion, Jpod is a much more accomplished script than that show (although that just might be my taste: no offense intended towards the Sanctuary crew who broke some records for their webcast). Jpod could easily, and already does, have a SciFi flavour and speak to the younger SciFi channel viewing audience. Especially if the screen writers take some elements from Girlfriend in a Coma.

Anyway, thanks for keeping the shows audience informed. This is about the only show I follow on IMDB, and look forward to, from week to week.

I totally adore this series. I highlighted the best bits of the book as i went along, too. A precious post mentioned webseries as an option. Yo, considering Coupland always walks the walk and the tv show was tops, let's get that show on the road, er web. C'mon... the family guy rose from the dead after a while... don't let the cbc bully you down... the ratings will improve if they just put a bit faith into it, instead of worrying what people friggin think all the time. I'm a canadian so i can say that. I can say the cbc is approval-starved and impatient like a teenage puppy for walks.

ps, hire me as a writer, promoter, blogger, webcast coordinator. Anything?

Sorry it didn't get renewed, Sandra, it was a really great show. And yeah, the cliffhanger that we'll never see finished is unfortunate.

reply

Well Fox cancelled Family Guy due to poor ratings, then brought it back after high DVD sales. Hopefully Jpod gets a DVD release...

reply

i'd buy it hands down. love this show even though the book was better.

reply

Blame it on poor promotions. I didn't even know of the show until I saw it on iTunes mid-May and decided to download the entire season. Great show, and good seeing our local landscape lampooned on national tv.

Let's hope DVD and iTunes sales lead to renewed interest in the show from the PTB's.

Are we reviving this board?
I agree but given the viewership of the canadians in the Stanley cup playoffs (a couple rounds), they really have no excuse for pulling this show since Toronto missing the playoffs was there previous excuse.

reply

I'll second terrible promotion. I never even saw this air on tv or even an ad for it (and yet far worse shows, such as Robson Arms get promo every 10 minutes).

I only heard of it through a website and then rented and later bought the dvds.

Too bad no second season.

well.. the book did end abruptly too, but I would love to see more episodes of jPOD, I admit that I never actually watched it on tv, I actually watched every episode online at least 3 times, I think they should consider webisodes though anyways, but I realise that the money they may earn for advertising would probably never be enough to run the show :( oh well... hopefully Coupland can convert more of his stories to tv shows, but I think the Gum Thief would make a great movie or Hey Nostradamous

(see I can end abruptly too :P)

I just found out about the show, and I watched it nearly in one day. I was/am hooked. I'm very upset that I didn't know this was on and that it's canceled. Of course, I'm American, so I wouldn't have really known. I really hope it comes back on the air so we get more episodes. I know it might be hard to get some of the cast back, but it's so worth a shot.
