Umm.. He was a producer? When a movie wins "Best Picture" that award goes to the producers

George Clooney was a producer. The Best Picture Oscar is awarded to a film's producer(s).

Clooney is also really tres aggreeable politically speaking, in Hollywood.

You could win a best picture Oscar for a can-opener Infotainment commercial, if you work in enough Hollywood liberal political asides..
