The 'Making Of' documentary

This film actually has all the earmarks of a bad movie classic. At first I was increasingly outraged by how terrible this film was, but then I went along with it as a piece of cheese like "Plan 9" and began to enjoy it on that level. The Making Of documentary I saw on the Australian release DVD actually adds to its appeal (the making of itself is a worthy piece of cheese). Here's some of the things it revealed:

1) The screenwriter cranked this one out after reading a book about how to write a screenplay and deciding "why not". (UPDATE: Apparently original director George Miller strayed from the script, so maybe we should feel sorry for the screenwriter. Maybe not.)

2) Apparently the original director (who they "refuse to name for legal reasons") was fired because he had some sort of conflicting "agenda". From the hints it sounded like he wanted to make pornos with the cast on the side. UPDATE: As per the link below and some research, the original director was George ("Man From Snowy River") Miller (and not George "Mad Max" Miller), so I guess the inferences are just BS.

3) The badguy behind all of the events was supposed to be aboriginal, but they couldn't find an aboriginal willing to play the role (THIS I believe). So they cast a white guy as an evil aboriginal trying to get revenge against whitey.

4) The producers actually realised there was a major continuity error but decided to leave it in. There's one scene where the 4 people still alive decide to leave one of their 3 vehicles behind. You see them driving off, 2 in one vehicle, the other two in the second. Then we go to long shots and see there are THREE vehicles driving down the road. Then suddenly the 2 vehicles arrive back at the site after having driven in circles and there's the third vehicle where they left it. Apparently they did not film enough coverage, so lacking footage of just the two vehicles driving around they used footage they had of all three of them.

5) The producer goes on about the mysterious second (credited) director and how he's known for a film he sold to the Russians for millions of dollars and which only makes the rounds at select parties. It becomes painfully obvious that this was really an "Alan Smithee" type of situation and the producer is shovelling it on.

6) The producer also spends half the making of going off on a tangent about his cats. He then even has another producer come in and talk (complete with photoshopped poster) about how one of the cats was originally cast in Nicole Kidman's role in "Australia", but Hugh Jackman's wife got jealous.

7) The male lead, Jesse Johnson is actually Don Johnson's son. They tried to cast Don Johnson as his boss, but apparently wound up with what looked like an aged, retired porn star instead.

8) The producer implies there is more explicit sex footage left out of the film which might make the rounds somewhere. This also strikes me as BS since Natalie actually showers outdoors with her clothes on in the film in contrast to the original publicity buzz.

UPDATE: Here's a really informative article about how this film really came down:

Great write-up. I scanned through the Making Of just to try and comprehend how such a steaming *beep* could be made.

Did not hear the explanation for the 3 cars. Which I noticed in the movie and was totally baffled by it. I though "surely I am missing something, such a major continuity cock-up is not possible"...

Also the dead bodies were clearly breathing...
