I have seen Shirley McClaine as the older Chanel and it could've been a much better film. Coco Before Chanel was quite lovely, but what is the best and most biographical film of her life?

I don't think that I would call any of the 4 versions that I have seen "definitive". But, the most entertaining was Chanel Solitaire (1981).
None of them deal with the fact that she was very UNattractive and that her 'style' was partly developed to compensate/distract from that fact. When she was older, she looked like a wizzened monkey. The fashion business is so interesting to watch over time because so much of it is schlock hyped up to be great. The designers got tiresome when their shows became clothes only models could wear and that only rich people could afford.
