The network has renewed the Armando Iannucci-created comedy “Avenue 5” for a second season.

“We’ve loved every minute of Avenue 5’s inaugural voyage,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vice president of HBO Programming. “Armando Iannucci and his team are masters of smart and incisive comedy, and the ensemble cast, brilliantly captained by Hugh Laurie, is second to none. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for our hapless heroes in season two.”

sad, just sad. oh well, they are all employed, and getting a pay check so that is an upside

it's nice when a network ignores critics & ratings to champion a show they believe in,
it's just funny HBO picked such an unfunny "comedy"

Let's give it a chance, it could get better! Modern Star Trek is crap (and also keeps going!) so this and Orville can fill the void :)

reply

It's very funny, but a dark humor that isn't for everyone.

reply

it's not even "dark humor,"
it's non-humor

reply

Just because it doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

reply

Is this supposed to be funny? Wow. Because, it isn't.

The first few episodes are pretty bad, but I watched the whole season and it got it's groove.

reply

Yeah, I just can't spend that much time on something I was only mildly interested in, in the first place. For an expensive show like this, and having Hugh Laurie in it, you need to be on top of it quickly, not many episodes in.

reply

I think early episodes are usually rough on ensemble character shows. Seinfeld and the Office didn't start great, but once the characters blossomed, it became the best stuff on tv.
