My brief report from the SXSW Film Festival

I thought it would be a few days before I saw anything worth writing about at this year's SXSW Film Festival. I wasn't expecting it to happen so soon so it was a glorious afternoon as I surprisingly found that "sweet little American indie" that drives me to attend festivals. I was very disappointed at Sundance -- I only found one (The Greatest). But here we are on just the second day and I have something to shout about. It's True Adolescents, which had its World Premiere at the intimate Alamo Ritz. First-time writer/director Craig Johnson was present for a Q&A with lead actor Mark Duplass (The Puffy Chair, Humpday) and his two young co-stars, Bret Loehr and Carr Thompson. There is so much to love about this film. I already anticipate it being among my Top Picks. I've never gone out on that kind of limb this early in a festival but it's hard to imagine it being surpassed. True Adolescents is in the Narrative Feature Competition and has a good shot at an award. I'll be posting pictures of the director and cast members (and their moms) from the Q&A and afterward.
