Q:
How do you think Minghags will be compared to the single greatest movie of all time, haggard? Do you know where I can get a haggard movie poster?

A:
shocktrooper89,
That's a big complement, thanks. Minghags is a little different than Haggard. It's a sequel, but only in certain respects. We expanded on a lot of the gags in Haggard, and perpetuated the Haggard world. Minghags is a true screwball comedy, where Haggard had some very emotional moments. But where Minghags lacks on the emotional level, it certainly makes up for in high comedy... It has the absurdity of a John Waters film, times ten.
Another thing about Minghags is, that it is a true closure to the CKY/Haggard series. This is it, the CKY crew's last big hurrah, the last movie in history in which the CKY crew appears together. And so, Minghags is as a farewell / departure for us all, the fans and the film makers respectively. It is my sincere hope that you enjoy it.
Thanks,
Frantz
P.S. - Fairman's in West Chester still has a few autographed Haggard posters left.

I said Minghags was the last time the CKY crew plans to do a film together (that is, Bam, Dunn, Dico, Rake, all in one movie). I didn't say it was the last time Bam and I will work together, or any of will work together, or any of us will ever work. You'll see more from all of us, just not all together at once.

We just wrapped up music rights and color corrections.
SO, now it's to Mike Nutt to do the menuing, and then it's off to the replicators, and finally, you'll be able to get the DVD on WWW.MINGHAGS.COM. In time, it will go to select retailers.
The DVD package will contain:
- DVD one with the film and commentary
- DVD two with over an hour of bonus material, special features, etc
- a Minghags poster
- Minghags stickers
Hope you like it!

Not for a little bit. We are on the tail end of a falling out with our distributor, who hasn't paid us in over a year. Anyway, now that we have the rights to distribution back, we need to develop some additional bonus features and such. We've already recorded a commentary for it.
But, the only people working on it are Bam and I, and we're concentrating on getting Minghags out right now.
Thanks for asking.

"I think CKY's label spent $100,000 on that Familiar Realm piece. BTW, the videos that Bam and I made cost approx $15,000 each, which I think we stretched a hell of a long way. You be the judge as to what makes a good video, cash VS talent"

the cky crew and the christopher guest crew are living proof that no amount of money can replace what happens when a group of people have good ideas.

reply

Frantz, I don't know whether this question has been asked already and if so I can only apologise, on Radio Bam there's been lots of talk about Haggard commentary. Is there going to be a re-release of Haggard with the commentary, is it gonna be on Minghags, or is it never gonna happen.

PS I saw an old movie of yours on youtube called 'The Best' or something - it is awesome, especially the fight scenes

You've given advice to film makers before but I was wondering if you could list some tips/advice for someone whose looking to shoot a music video and if you could list some tips/advice to give the band that is going to be in the video.

Thanks alot Joe, and can't wait to see Minghags on DVD!

A:
CrispSandwich,
I actually haven't hung out with Dico around for quite a while, I've been working like crazy (what's new?!?) so I haven't been out much. He's in Raab's movie Hot Dog Casserole, which you should see if you like Dico... Lord Bottaro is in the film as well, who, in my opinion is one of the funniest guys out of the whole CKY crew.
There are several Dico rumors on the table right now (RUMORS, mind you!):
1. He's getting married to his sweetheart Bonnie
2. He's writing a new film with Raab
3. He's pitching ideas for his own television show to several networks
4. he's getting ready to release his independent film he's been making for the past 7 years
Thanks,
Frantz

A:
jvog009,
I like them all for different reasons...
CKY videos were fun to do just because Bam was experimenting with his directorial sensibilities at the time, so we got to play up many different setups and techniques. At the time, the CKY guys had just achieved a certain level of popularity with Bam's fans, and it was interesting to work with them to see the dynamics of how they handled their newfound notoriety as a band.
The HIM guys were cool because they really are big stars, yet they're down to Earth. At the time of these videos, Bam was really coming into his own as a director, and I'd have to say these were the most "professional" and "biggest" videos we did. I enjoy the Finnish people because they can discuss politics without getting emotional, and they are always open to new points of view. Always good conversations with these guys.
Vains Of Jenna' s video turned out exactly as we planned, a throwback to 80's glam. I didn't really hang out with these guys too much because they were only in town for a few days, and I spent them working on the video. Did love the video. It has such an energetic feel.
Making Clutch's video was almost making a video without a band present. I think Neil and I said about three words to each other the whole time. He was a nice enough person, but to me he seemed to be a bit of a loner and very distant. Jean-Paul was a great guy, with high energy and a kind demeanor. I have to say that the Clutch guys put on a hell of a show. Check them out if you ever get a chance.
I like the Viking Skull guys a lot because they really put forth effort into making the video (you'd be surprised how many bands don't).
Bloodhound Gang... Let me just say that Jimmy Pop Ali is possibly the most pleasant person I've ever worked with. I went to college with Jimmy, actually. Directing "Screwing You On The Beach At Night" was great because Jimmy seemed to have a lot of trust in me. I don't think five minutes went by where I wasn't laughing at one of his jokes. I get a ton of complements on this video, a visual satire of Chris Isaac's "Wicked Game"...
And the 69 Eyes... Those guys were so appreciative to Bam and I that you'd never guess they were stars. They thank me every time I see them, and let me know how much it meant to them that we pulled off their "Lost Boys" video. Damn, I'm proud of that one. I think it's the most creative video we've made yet.
Thanks,
joe Frantz

Hey Joe, I'm film student currently beginning production on my first full-length film. We're working with a couple Sony VX2000s right now. As a professional cinematographer, do you have any tips in shooting or in post to give my video a more "professional" or "film-like" quality while lacking a camera with 24p or shooting on film?

There's no cure all for video in order to make it look like film. Three things you should learn about:
- lighting
- color corrections
- video quality
It is the juggle between these three which will allow you to optimize the look and picture quality.

I'm not really a regular bam fanatic or anything
i thought jackass and viva la bam were funny for the most part

it had been a long time since i listened to radio bam
i listened to a couple newer episodes the other day

its like bam and whoever just don't give a *beep* anymore
its not even funny anymore

"whose *beep* who?"

"whose *beep* what?"

we hear how he mistreats his wife and how he has abused drugs

Bam sounds more unintelligent as time goes on (referencing from radio bam.. just listen to it)

we get no real updates like in the past.. like when viva la bam was still new and jackass 2 was still in production

I know the radio show is for entertainment but.. why does it have to be so empty

now I'm not trying to knock you guys , i am a fan.. ive done my part by buying your dvd and seeing your movies

but what gives?

or does this explain why minghags is the last cky/haggard venture?

i guess in conclusion:

why does bam margera sound like such a *beep* idiot these days?
and why does it get glorified

there is a difference between doing funny jackass *beep* and doing stuff that makes you look like worse of a person

same goes for that brandon novak guy

sorry if this sounds harsh joe frantz..

its just an opinion

I'm still gonna buy minghags

i think a lot of people forget that bam's only 28. it seems like he's pretty much done everything he ever wanted to do and met all the people he's wanted to meet. its not child star type stuff, but i can see where its hard for him to find motivation. there was a radio bam episode last summer where it was just him and chad in the studio and he basically said all that

It's like I've said countless times, MINGHAGS is the last time the crew is going to be seen together in a film, it's a closure to the CKY/HAGGARD series. I hope you enjoy it.
Maybe you can shed some light on the subject for me, it seems to me that you (and a lot of others) feel there is something "going on" with the crew... What do you mean by this?
As for your www.garbagejuicer.com question, yes, you can order a garbage juicer. They are expensive, so don't order one unless you have the money to pay for it... But the grapefruit juice it produces is exquisite!

i dont really mean to repeating thing and i apolagize for doing so, but i guess we all just fell kinda like why after all these years are they going to stop making movies/dvds/tv shows. we all love the crew as the whole and i guess we just want to know whats the reasoning. im not saying that there is a fight going on i am just kinda curious. once again sorry for nagging just kind of upset in a way like if kevin smith or tarintino were to never come out with another film or if there were to be no more batmans being made...... n how much is the garbage juicer?

mas622 ,
None of us are stopping making films, so don't worry. Minghags, Where the *beep* Is Santa, and Hot Dog Casserole are all out this year, so there will be plenty to watch. The reason for not making another CKY film is that 30-year-olds are a bit to brittle to take repeated shopping cart slams (HAH!)...
The garbage juicer sells for over $5000, but if you like grapefruit juice and root beer, and have a kerosene heater, it's well worth it!
Thanks,

it really doesn't bother me if this is the last thing the "crew" does as a whole. it sounds like they're all going to stay in the entertainment business individually and maybe minghags will be the "crew's" ultimate way of going out on top

DanielSinematic wrote:
no one is saying "we want you to keep doing jackass *beep* i think the actual skits, short films, feature films and music videos from you guys are far more entertaining and creative than riding around in a shopping cart. there is no reason at all that you guys cant keep working together producing films like minghags or haggard, no one seems to understand why is everyone going their separate ways and thats why people keep asking "whats going on with the crew" if you guys are all friends and enjoy working together, then why the f-ck not? no one wants to see 5 different projects, one from raab, one from bam, one from dico, and so on, we want you guys together, when you guys come together you bring the best out in each other and its very fun to watch. its like hanging out with old friends. some of the best episodes of radio bam are the ones with everyone in the room, including like jess and chad and everyone. the more recent episodes is bam drunk off his ass with other drinking buddies, making fun of novak and telling stories about last night at the bar, why would people tune into a radio show like that when they can hang out with their drunk frat buddies and get the same thing? the cky crew is or was something really special and is or was one of the most creative and original comedy groups out there, in my book right up there with monty python. im not the only one who thinks so. no one has a problem with giving some closure to the adventures, if minghags is it, then you couldnt ask for a better ending, the problem is that it doesnt make sense to say that youre still going to make movies, but youre not going to make them together.

Joe Frantz replied:
I have a lot of respect for your opinion. Yes, we did have something very special that most crews will never share, and what we did together will always hold a special place in film history, and in the hearts of many kids, teens, and adults. I loved working together as a crew, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat... But, if Dico and Raab and Dunn and everyone else want to branch off, then they have to follow their hearts and give it a try. I can't blame them for wanting this. Dunn is completely happy designing high end cars, Dico and Raab seem to be doing well and are happy doing their own solo projects. Rake is a very successful scientist. Everyone seems to be enjoying what they're doing with their lives right now, so this is the way it has to be.
Thanks for caring,
Frantz

Thanks concerning your excitement about Minghags!
My advice to you and the band is:
- Give it your all!
- Get rid of your egos, no one can be a big star and still be 100%, you have to be open to each others' personalities
- Learn how to work together efficiently
- plan out the shoot to maximize your time together, but stay open to spontaneity
Good Luck!
