Based on real story and censorship

So, I just watched this movie yesterday after a mainland Chinese friend recommended it (she helps me with my mandarin & han zi). For future reference if it interests anyone down the line.

I watched the movie where the main character kills the fake-husband with a cleaver/axe-type tool, then the movie ends.

There is an alternative ending where the girl goes home with her father and abandons her baby in the village.

Both of these are apparently based on stories and occurrences that were not uncommon (and still happens).

I thought my version was the "good" one, but apparently in real life for killing her fake-husband she is sentenced to death.

The other version for some reason (or I misunderstood her, could be vice versa) was "he2 xie4", in other word censored. I have yet to see the other version.

Just knowing all this made the movie so much more depressing for me, but it's important to keep your eyes open to even terrible things; I suppose :/


Great movie though, this Yang Li guy did a good job :)
