Who names their baby 'Hattie'?

I have a problem with that name, because nobody names a white kid "Hattie". All of the Hattie's I've seen are old black southern women that are lke 60's or 70's. I guess the parents were trying to be original. *barf*

reply

If her parents wanted to name her 'Hattie', then that's their choice. I don't like half the names many Black parents name their kids these days (Shaquetta, LaQuanda, Tre'Shawn, etc.) but it's their parent's choice.

reply

oh please! many white parents have been getting their kids "black" names lately for your information. for example the pop singer "Kesha" is white.... seriously? kesha is an african name. i've seen white and hispanic girls named shay, latasha, lakisha, shawna, darey, tysharii, and moniqui(pronounced moe nee quee). i know an asian guy named darryl and an asian girl named deliecea.

so its not just black people with unique and unamerican names. calm down with that.

reply

The US has people from many cultures. I don't think any name is 'unamerican'. Stupid maybe...

It must be very unsettling to realize that there are people in the world whose lives aren't governed by your experiences.

I'm not sure if they used their real names to protect their identity. At least Mari, the Japanese baby's name may not be her real name because when the mother was writing the name on Mari's feet, it wasn't "Mari."

reply

Well, at one point Hattie's mother actually spoke her name clearly. And I think it's a lovely name, if admittedly unusual.

reply

My best friend is named Hattie, she was born in the early 80's and is white.

Monkey!...I mean Dog!

reply

I personally don't like the name but there is worse.

reply

Yuppies.

reply

Chill out, it's not like they named her Tiffani-Amber, could be so much worse.

bob dylan wrote one of his finest songs ever about a black maid who was murdered by a white man. hattie carroll is her name in the song and she is a martyr or hero in the song, so, thats pretty cool.

and the show parenthood on nbc, a new drama show, features a character named haddie, or hattie, its pretty indistinguishable which one it is.
