Does Guy Fieri ever dislike a place or a dish at some place?

Hey just started watching the show. Has Guy Fieri ever disliked the food at some place, or at least one dish? (or voiced criticism at any aspect of food/diner).

There's one episode where he eats a pig ear sandwich with mustard, and you can tell he's having a hard time coming up with great things to say about it. If you hear him use the word "interesting" a lot, rather than "delicious" or "killer," it's pretty clear he ain't lovin' it.

I hate your stupid signature

thx for the sig compliment!

I was thinking of the immortal words of Socrates, who said, "... I drank what?"

lol yeah the pig ear sandwich from the soul food place was not one of his favorite things. you can tell he didn't really want to try it, and I don't blame him. he kept saying it was "tender", instead of going through the roof, like when he has an awesome meatball or roast beef sandwich.

He also HATES eggs, and eats only the tiniest portions if they are included in a recipe.

he's one smart guy. much harder for him to get egg on his face.

Yo, bartender, Jobu needs a refill.

There was a Mexican joint in a gas station where he couldn't choke down but one tiny spoonful of menudo. Can't say I blame him.

He complained at some point when the stuffed pork chop when they making it wasn't bone in-- because bone in has more flavor. I'd agree with him, but they were at a farm, so they probably got the freshest meat possible. He didn't complain about the end taste.

But I think Food Network watches their scratch, and it's pretty mapped out, so the places Guy goes to aren't places that serve dog food-- especially that day. Gordan Ramsey does that in "Kitchen Nightmares," and, Guy has to taste so much, I don't think his gut could take something from the bottom of the sewer.

The show's spot on-- there are places in mid-America that blow all fast food off the map, and the prices (which he doesn't mention, but should) don't differ by that much.

By and by, I'd like to see that episode the other are talking about in the soul food restaurant. I still think if he didn't know beforehand what it was he would think it was 'rockstar.' I used to be so mental about that when I was a kid, I'm suprised I'm not a vegetarian. Now, give me some fried gizzards and a pitcher of beer and some weird exploitation movie and I'm in heaven.

I doubt you'll ever see much of that on there since that's not the point of the show. He's not acting as a food critic, his show's shtick is finding places that the locals all dig and showcasing them as great places to go. They're not going to show a lot of the "off" dishes and it's likely that any place that's a total write off never makes it to air.

There's a fine line between genius and insanity. I have erased this line.

Good points JJ. Plus you can tell when he is not thrilled by something. He is not rude but you can see the difference. Plus with all the influx of angry Chef stuff I kind of like this show.

He's hit a lot of GREAT lookin burger joints - my favorite was the one where they put a pile of shredded cheddar over the burger right on the grill and it melts and gets that brown cooked cheese look and the locals call it the apron - man I'm hungry now - anyways . . .

one place the guy was makin some good burgers for him, and then made him one with peanut butter on it. I thought maybe it would be good because I remember a movie with Bill Cosby long ago where he plays an ambulance driver. He goes through a drive through burger place with his partner and orders a burger with peanut butter on it, and eats it while looking up at a Mcdonalds sign saying how much better his peanut butter burger is . . . ok, really, anyways . . .

Guy made no secret of what he thought about the peanut butter burger. I believe he came out and told the cook / owner directly that it was not good.

the squeeze inn burger! yeah that did look good. there was a place, katie's in new orleans, he liked the food but it seemed rather testy between the owner & guy.

Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon?

reply

In one episode, he talked about not ever airing a place if he didn't like it.

You can tell when he doesn't like something. He struggles to come up with nice things to say about the food.

The time he tried the menudo and looked like he wanted to puke. That was hilarious.
